Ben Shapiro Questions Calvinism as defined by Allie Stuckey

Published 2019-05-06
Dr. Leighton Flowers, Director of Evangelism and Apologetics for Texas Baptists, plays a clip from an interview between Ben Shapiro and Allie Stuckey (seen here:    • Allie Stuckey | The Ben Shapiro Show ...  ) where Allie explain 5-point Calvinism. Ben, being a very logical thinker who can spot a contradiction with he sees it, immediately pushes back by asking Allie how she "squares that circle."

Hearing Leighton describe Romans 9 is like an Emmaus road experience. It makes one's heart want to break out in worship like the apostle and say "Oh, the depth of the riches of both the wisdom and knowledge of God!" God bless Dr. Flowers
  • One question I've always had is, how does Allie, or any other Calvinist, know that they are one of the chosen few, and are not just fooling themselves into believing they are saved. There are so many things about Calvinism that are just indefensible.
  • @Emper0rH0rde
Isn't it odd how every person who preaches Calvinism is conveniently already "saved"? It's super easy to tell people "yeah, you're going to hell, and you are absolutely helpless to do anything about it" when you know it's not going to happen to you. Why bother praying "God, be merciful to me, a sinner" when God never "elected" you? What a terrible, fatalistic dogma to raise children with.

I don’t know what I would’ve done without your teachings. I came from a Calvinist church that hurt me terribly. Thank you, truly, from the bottom of my heart, for these videos!
  • @BackToOrthodoxy
I am a calvinist but I’m listening because If I’m wrong I want to know. I enjoyed this.
  • @markreiber4457
A non Christian hearing her first statement would freak out on believing that is how God is ,wow

I have never understood why Calvinists can't marry God's sovereignty with human free will! Calvinists have such a low view of God's sovereignty. God is so amazing he can give everyone free will and STILL accomplish everything he wants (without being surprised by anything)—that, my friend is an awesome God.

Brother Leighton you are a foot soldier for truth. I am so glad I found your channel.

I followed the Calvin doctrine when I first got saved because down here in New Zealand every church is either Pentecostal or liberal, so for me it was a breath of fresh air to listen to Christians that were serious about God, but the more I went further into it I became confused, and couldn't get past election. As I lived it out I noticed I was becoming ungraceful towards unbelievers, I still appreciate Calvinists and what they've stood for but I really appreciate this video on Roman's 9 really insightful.

I love Allie Stuckey, but once again, Calvinism fails to hold up to scrutiny. According to her doctrine, God created certain people specifically to throw them into hell, for the purpose of glorifying himself, yet they are still somehow to blame for the transgressions that God ordained they would commit before the foundation of the world, and Romans 9 is the defense shield used whenever anybody points out this inconsistency. "God works in mysterious ways" is just another way of saying "I have no idea what I'm talking about."
  • So I took some theology courses on hermenutics and exegesis and one thing I learned ( amongst many other) is that a single verse must be read in the context of the passage, the passage in the context of the chapter, and the chapter in context of the Book, and last of all the book in context of the Testimony (Old/New) and the Tesstimony in context of the entire Bible. If using this method of study it totally destroys the Calvinist doctrine. Along many other false/errenous teachings: 2Ti 2:15  Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Leighton you are so generous with these guys. Bless you for blessing those who don’t bless.
  • @elijah1047
Thank for what you do, I could never agree with calvinism, and people tried to convert me over. I'm thankful for this channel for helping me see even more why this is a wrong way of viewing God and salvation.
  • @brotherderek
I am having a conversation with a Christian, who is Calvinist, and they hold onto their position so strongly it is almost as if they are brainwashed. Honestly, I don't think any of them truly believe it, but they have been seduced into believing it is the "smart thing to do." I don't see the God of the Bible is Calvinism at all. Too many scriptures that don't fit into that systematic.
  • Dr. Flowers, I want to thank you for taking a stand for the truth of God's word! After spending 3 weeks in a Calvinist church, what was being taught wasn't making sense for me! When I questioned the leadership I was given two books to read. The first one made me question myself and the 2nd one made me question them even more!!! Then I found your podcast and I was set free! Keep spreading the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ! Blessings brother 🙏!

God only hardened Pharoah's heart after he hardened his own heart.

Leighton what you said at the end of this video absolutely spoke to my heart. So I want to make an offer. I currently work for a rather large organization (Focus on the Family) in the digital marketing department. I've worked with dozens of ministries over the past 7-8 years to develop and coordinate everything from designing a website to fundraising to managing events and conferences. Your ministry has been absolutely key to me being able to navigate the relationships with my Reformed friends and you've absolutely changed my life. You're deep dive into theology has been massively and profoundly impactful on my theology and explaining what I believe and why. All that to say I want to volunteer my services in helping you and Soteriology 101 in increasing your reach and I want to help with what you were talking about at the end of this video, and I want to do it for free. And not introductory free and then I start charging, I mean absolutely free. I just want to spread this message as far and as deep as possible. If you can tell me what the best way to start this conversation is, I would love to help.
  • Thank you for these videos. I'm glad I came across this channel. They are a very helpful resource for me and I am grateful
  • Thank you for taking on a rebottle of this video! Your careful and consistent exegesis is inspiring. Thank you for your faithful work on this subject.
