"The Austrians are clearly just reskinned Germans" Glad to know the game is realistic
  • @Cotac_Rastic
I still love how the British were able to stick two artillery pieces and 5 squads worth of machine guns inside a metal box with an exposed engine, and still make it move effectively.
  • @BlueRanger57
Despite the historical inaccuracies, I always felt DICE nailed the atmosphere and scale of the conflict. Easily one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time. Thanks for the vid!

The most underrated feature in this game is the Codex Entries. You get the entertaintment value in multiplayer but also the history of WW1 and its weapons, factions and equipment if you choose to dig deep. After playing this game when it came out, I never lost my interest for WW1 history and its many stories.
  • I love the behemoth aspect of the gameplay. The fact a dreadnought or zeppelin can be called in normal multiplayer gameplay is such an awesome idea. They’re fun to bring down and fun to operate. Plus the sound design with them from their opening cutscene with the lady announcing them and the fog horn blasting. Bloody brilliant
  • Even if not many companies pick the WW1 settings for their games, I'm at the very least happy that THIS one was made. That we at least have 1 WW1 game that isn't (like you said) barely playable, or some alt-history BS. This is such an amazing game, flaws and all.

The real core of the multiplayer experience in BF1 is Operations. It concentrates all the chaos of conquest into small sectors, so you spend way less time trying to find the action. Also, very atmospheric

One aspect I don’t think was brought up enough was the presentation. HOLY SHIT, no other FPS game has an atmosphere like BF1. The sound design is exquisite. The voice acting is fantastic. (Look up how they made the German voices, it’s really impressive.) The hail of gunfire, the screams of soldiers, the boom of explosions, and the grinding engines of vehicles. When the music kicks in, it’s go time, either because you’ve taken the point and your characters all scream as the whistles blow and you all charge the next point, or defense is about to win and the horns are BLARING for the last stand or desperate push. Each map looks gorgeous. Caporetto, Monte Grappa, Nivelle Nights, Somme, Verdun Heights, and so, so many more. From bombed out towns that will be left even more bombed out by the end of the match, to No Man’s Land with trenches and wrecked buildings lining the barbed wire hellscape, giant forts, and the most gorgeous vistas to ever die on. And all of it is enveloped by and drowned in absolute chaos, and oppressive brutality, and I love it.

My favorite small feature of this game is as a Squad Lead when you select the “go, go, go” from the voice lines it’ll blast a whistle from your guy just like how officers would use a whistle to let the company know it was time to go over the top.
  • @sebzero2
For me when BF1 came out, playing operations was the peak of multiplayer gaming, nothing has come close since in my opinion. The atmosphere, graphics, sound design and soundtrack is incredible still. The behemoth crashing down during the game is still impressive. Cant beat BF1 back in the day
  • @Cholimao
Putting "Betrayal" after killing an Austro-Hungarian soldier is such a fucking big brain reference.
  • @SwaggyG_2102
Following a near death experience in the barren wasteland that is DayZ, Black Yoshi finds himself transported into the world of Battlefield 1, where he'll become a witness towards the various horrors of World War 1.
  • @HEKVT
When you're an Indian man fighting for the British in a trench in France against a German because a Serb man shot an Austrian in Bosnia.... BF1 is still great to this day, I enjoy the gunplay, visuals hold out well and the atmosphere is very well presented.
  • @GameRevo
I'm really happy to see this video. Feels like a huge step up on the analysis front - works really nicely with your style of humour (the historical references are like a perfect mix of the two). This triggers all the right neurons in my silly nerd brain - congrats. Love to see you evolving your style!
  • This game and world at war are prime examples of why aesthetics are important to games
  • @sauceman2885
I love bf1 I am in love with it’s attempt at showing the horror and sadness of war. While it is a game for dopamine rushes as a first, the atmosphere and level of immersion you can feel is amazing. In operations whenever a sector is taken you are bombarded with the war cries of your comrades, the whistles of gunfire and explosions, and the amazing music. It’s one of the best feelings
  • @xboxhomie4
Getting the Peacekeeper in this game almost drove me to morse-code-induced insanity, but it was SO worth it to be a western front cowboy gunslinger.
  • @jahn77
Kinda wished you talked about the soldiers dialogue in multiplayer. I remember playing it when it first came out and rushing with a bayonet would cause your character to scream like a banshee. Your character even acts like his having a panic attack when being bombarded or shot at.
  • As a huge fan of 1900s history seeing a AAA game take a shot at WW1 was so cool when the game was released, few games get me so hyped with the music and atmosphere. Shame that we did not receive any war stories from the Central Powers at least there was an attempt to humanize them in the intro campaign.
