This channel is focused on Bones, Hormones, and Healthspan to help midlife women and beyond aim for optimal, not average, and reignite their spark!

The videos on this channel will be focused around helping women navigate healthspan and longevity through the lens of osteoporosis, perimenopause, and menopause. When it comes to osteoporosis and menopause providers and educators often get tunnel vision and your symptoms might get better, but if you don't keep longevity in mind, symptom improvement may come at the expense of heart and brain health.

Subscribe and follow along as Dr. Doug Lucas explores the research and clinical applications surrounding women's health.

I watch your videos to get what I need. Thank you for doing what you do for all of us. Great information which helps and encourages.💕 l refuse to give up.
  • I am 79 …went from osteopenia 9 yrs ago to -2.7. I have in the last 3 yrs increased my supplements of d3 k2 b12 and my diet improved. No other medications. I am working on weight bearing PT and balance. I had kemo 2014. My goal now is to reverse my osteoporosis. I am a strong woman wanting to do this.

35 years ago my doctor recommended I take Fosomax...I asked her if she would and she said NO! So here I am at 83 and have taken nothing although my bone loss indicates I have osteoporosis. I have never broken a bone. I began extensive weight-bearing exercises 5 years ago and believe I am healthy. I will never take the horrific drugs. Once you begin you have to continue for the rest of your life.
  • Excellent ! 72yo, had my DX and REMs, no drugs for me until I have increased protein, weight training/exercise/supplements/sleep/ stress and researched everything I can. Your channel is encouraging. Signed up Master class. Authentic and concise Dr Doug Lucas. Thank you. Canada.

Good news. My NP told me it is not reversible. I absolutely believe I will reverse it. I hit the gym for strength/weight training and we do have a Power Plate which I use. And I gave up alcohol a year ago!

Plz don't wait until menopause to be screened for osteoporosis. If you have a family history or any contributing factors get screened early. I was told not to worry about it until menopause and had my first DEXA at 53. I had full blown osteoporosis. Drs don't recommend early detection because insurance companies won't cover the cost. I would have gladly paid the $200 or $300 dollars to have the scan early if I was told it could save my life. Thank you for helping to educate women and encouraging them to be proactive in their healthcare decisions.

Thank you for your time and information. This is so helpful and calming. I was notified by phone and offered a drug. I totally was freaked out and scared. Thank you for the encouraging words and work you are doing. I am 61 and am prioritizing my lifestyle.

1.Before you are able to turn your condition around, move to only slip-resistant comfortable shoes. Don't wear socks when going up and down stairs. Avoid things that contribute to risks of falling, like chairs on wheels.

It seems doctors are not trained to heal their patients but are trained to sell the products of pharmaceutical companies.

Hello! I am a very healthy 74 year old youthful woman. Small boned, blue eyes and natural blonde hair. Take no medications. Eat healthy and I have a wonderful active life. I had 7 fractures last year and ended in a rehab center for PT for 39 days. What a shock! On my own I had a bone scan. Low and behold I have severe stage 4 osteoporosis. Saw my doctor and he prescribed Fomax. I said no. I'm trying to do the natural approach. Basically, I wanted folks to know that this can creep up even if you are in perfect health. I asked my Dr. how we missed this. He said they do not recommend bone scans until you reach 70. Said we probably should have done one then. I am devastated, but working hard to reverse as much as I can. One thing I do everyday, is strap on 2 lb ankle weights and put them on my wrists as well and wear all day. Don't know if it helps, but what the heck? I love this channel and benefit greatly from your expertise and advice! Carolyn

Thank you! I am 44 and have T scores in the -3 range. I had to have my ovaries removed and went into surgically induced menopause at 31. I found out around 36 that I have a genetic clotting disorder when I had a PE and had to come off of my HRT. They’ve tried to tell me I have to start prolia and take it until I die. I’ve completely changed my life and go for my next DEXA scan in May. Hopefully those numbers will be better.

  • @cathydelange2645
I have fractured my 4th and 5th vertabrae in my back and wpuld like to add excercise to my program but am afraid I will cause more harm to my back. I am in constant pain and get nauseas from any pain medication . I cannot walk.upright unless I have taken a very strong pain tablet. I do feel as if my life has ended and also am dependent on state hospitals for help which is not very helpful. It is hard to stay positive in these circumstances but I am.grateful for people like you who try and help and give sound advice. Thanhk you dr lLucas!
