Are you using Boron for Osteoporosis? | WATCH THIS!

Published 2024-06-24
In this conversation, Dr. Doug Lucas discusses Boron, a supplement that has potential benefits for bone health. He reviews multiple studies that have shown that boron supplementation can increase levels of sex hormones, reduce inflammation, improve wound healing, and boost magnesium absorption. However, it is important to take boron in the right dosage, as excessive intake can lead to toxicity!

Make of this what you will, but, I started taking boron shortly after being diagnosed with very severe osteoporosis in January of 2023. (Spine -4.6.) Im January 2024, my spine was -3.9. I've since been told by a physician that DEXAs can't calculate scores for bones as bad as mine very well, and that there was no way my second score reflected that much improvement (about 14-15%) though he conceded it was a positive sign it wasn't worse. Just leaves me not knowing what to think. But I can also say that while 2023 was a brutal year that established pain in my back as a constant, I don't feel as fragile now. I'm still careful with twisting but last year it seemed the tiniest moves resulted in injury (at least some of which were fractures,) and this year, and this year most of the time, I just do what I want/need to do in a way I have not been able to do for...three years prior. At least some, if not most of this, is that I'm stronger. And I also pretty much take every supplement Dr Doug has ever said, "Might help, probably won't hurt you," that I can afford and a few he hasn't talked about yet. Probably wrecking my kidneys, (but the osteoporosis drugs might hurt them too, I hear,) but otherwise if there are ill effects, I haven't detected them, and when you go from running and doing functional exercise classes to struggling to walk/constant pain that no non-opioid drug can even touch, you do make some choices. Boron was my first one. Might help, probably won't hurt.

I’m been taking this for over a year & and 1/2. I I was told I have osteoporosis. I do the borax powder & put a pinch in my water bottle, 5 days a week & take the weekends off. I think it’s making a difference in my bones. I tripped & over my dog in the street. Landed on my elbow, twisted back my wrist, walked my knee & twisted my shoulder onto the street. No injury to any part of my body, but a small scrape on my knee. I’m a very small woman w/ a petite frame. I’m going to keep taking it.

I have osteopenia and am 66 yrs. old. I have eaten a 90% carnivore diet for the last 5 years, plus am lactose intolerant. I’m trying to figure out what supplements to take for my bones. I tried AlgaeCal for 2 months. It made my joints swell and painful in my hands where I have osteoarthritis. (The carnivore diet has made my osteoarthritis basically go away, unless I eat something that flares it up.) I removed the AlgaeCal from my diet for 1.5 weeks the swelling and pain went away. AlgaeCal says it doesn’t cause this, but not every supplement is for everybody. I currently take magnesium, vitamin D, K2. I will be adding boron to my supplements too. It would be great if you could do a video on best supplements for bones for people on the carnivore diet. Thank you for all your videos!!

I was diagnosed with osteoporosis. What I changed is exercise, eating right, biological hormones and added boron. I am now in osteopenia.
  • @Suz47
Thank you for all the great research. I had read about the benefits of boron on bones, that's one of the reason that I end my last meal of the day with 6 prunes for dessert.I figure it can't hurt. My multi has .5mg of boron and my magnesium supplement has .7mg. Along with a healthy diet I'm confident that I likely get enough of it. With other add-ons like milk basic protein, K2 as in both MK4 and MK7,....... coupled with good resistance and impact training, hopefully I see a positive shift in my BMD. 🤞

I was hoping you would cover this suppliment. Healing from broken collarbone and the doctor had me stretch my arm above my head against a wall and have been in a lot of pain since. People have said take Boron and I did read one study that said boron heals bones much much faster.
  • @edyt.8761
Very interesting video Dr. Douglas! Thank you!!!
  • Ok so my story is - I take boron I felt pretty good on it but it was raising my cortisol levels, plus I believe it’s advised to not take it if you’re taking hormones? The side effect that I mainly got from it was Facial flushing. Boron is meant to help raise oestrogen & testosterone levels. I’ve been taking 5mg per day but both my testosterone & oestrogen are still low. I’m 40 .
  • I’m taking Fructo Borate as suggested by Dr. William Pawluk to supplement my use of the PEMF machine I use. Also use Algae Cal Plus among other products you have suggested.
  • @suzanmhich7645
Great info thanks 🙏 I wonder which time of day is best to take boron?
  • @petra2912
Thank you for taking the time to write. I get enough calcium in my diet, take magnesium, vitamin d3, vit k (mk7), fish oil, boron, Q10, ginkgo and MSM. All approved by a dietitian. That’s why I’m confused and bummed. I’m doing everything I’m told! Diet, exercise, supplements!!
  • @TMZDDZ
Hello Dr. Doug! I'm new to your channel. This is the first video I've watched and I'm glad I did because I have 30 mg tablets of boron! The suggested use says, "One tablet daily or as directed by your health care provider". I took one and was nauseous. I've since been cutting them in half. I had no idea that could be too much! I researched and read that the maximum taken should be under 20 mg per day. Under what circumstances would a person need 30 mg per day?!
  • I really appreciate all the content on this channel, not least of all the citations and commentary on studies of supplements (I read every study). I will also say that the free Master Class and Workbook were very helpful for laying out all the strategies I am already (and not yet) using to try to improve my bones…to see where my money and effort are going. Where I struggle is in trying to evaluate the relative importance and effect size of all the various interventions. I tend to suppose that resistance exercise and hormones probably rank ahead of sleep, diet, and supplements, but could there be some supplements that really should be nearer the top of the list? Now that I am up to 21 supplements (!) I take partly or primarily for bone health, on top of daily exercise, weekly intensive strength training, Rx hormone replacement, prunes, protein and prayer, it’s natural to wonder at what point I am “majoring in the minors.” I get that osteoporosis is a multifactorial condition, and also that there must be wide variation in who responds best to what. There is also the problem of time lag between what we try, and our DEXAor REM test results. Still I wonder if you have any general comments on which interventions typically make the biggest difference to your patient population, and where patients should typically focus the most attention.
  • Doing it! Doing the genstein bc doctor wouldn’t give me HRT . Walking 4mi on cane and doing weight resistances . Almost 82 had broken femoral stem anterior hip replacement last July1. Fell after 9 miles on hard concrete afraid I will wear out the new titanium joint if too much use? Possible?
  • Thank you Dr Doug! You're right on point of trying to put supplementation all together. So, here's a question on products. Have you looked into sea moss, weeds or grasses? I had a friend tell me the other night that she takes sea moss. 🤷‍♀️
  • @b.a.6362
I have severe osteoporosis & osteo arthritis. I have had painful bone marrow edema in my big toe for 5 years......swollen sore big toe. I started taking 1 cup epsom salt, 1/4 cup baking soda AND 2 TBS BORAX dissolved in hot water added to the average foot bath tub! After only 8 days I have 90% less big toe bone pain, toe swelling went down!! I feel much better too! Started 2 cups borax added to hot bath, along with 4 pounds Epsom Salts, box of baking soda & Sea salt (pure NO ANTI-cake agents). Body Aches pains reduced!!
  • We should be concerned with the lowering of estradiol in the male test subjects. So the second study with women showed a favorable rise in estradiol. I found this video really helpful.
