The reason that batman looks so big is because he was based off of retired football players and how they thicken up after stopping playing. Also he is supposed to be an unstoppable tank throughout. At least thats what the interveiw with frank Miller says in the beginning of the comic

Wish we had a lot more internal dialogue from Batman. That made the comic for me. Basically just being old man Batman

The Batman Returns duology are the kinds of adaptations that shouldn’t exist but you are so glad do. Not only do they perfectly adapt one of the greatest Batman tales ever, but they damn near enhance it. I am so glad I am not the only one who remembers and cherishes these movies.

Honestly, Peter weller has become one of my low key favorite Batman voices since this movie.
  • Watched this in middle school and it is, and always will be my favorite Batman story. Both the movie and the comic.

God I love these movies Absolutely my favorite animated ones His first night back has to be one of the most bad ass Batman moments ever (And I think their voices work very well cause Batman is 55 years old and Gordon is 70 something though I would say Batman doesn’t really have a necessarily menacing voice)
  • Vee, this is the 9th time you showed the class a Batman movie and rank it as "the best".
  • @TacoFusion
you should definitely return to the dark knight returns I recently started watching all the animated Batman movies and these two by far are my favorite.
  • This is the greatest Batman comic book adaptation because it is faithful with its art style and narrative. Like for Batman Hush, they tried to connect the story to their own animated universe where Damian already exists and it is basically the new 52. Also, they changed some stuff narratively where they shouldn’t

Return to the Dark Knight Returns. I think Carrie's parents fit well with how smoking weed and raising a kid while poor could turn out. Weed is usually used as an escape from life. Makes sense that she can essentially do what ever she wants.

Remember this, Frank Miller wrote for Daredevil first so DC hired him to write for batman after Daredevil's success
  • Been a long time since I’ve seen these DKR movies but I remember really enjoying them. As a fan of the comic, I couldn’t really ask for a better adaptation. I’m kinda with you on the Mutants and their speech, though. Anytime someone tries to insert in-canon slang, and then have characters use it relentlessly, it always comes off as jarring. One thing about the graphic novel, it gets progressively uglier. Earlier images and drawings of Batman are much more colorful and better drawn, then as the book goes on it gets more crude and depressing, especially once Batman switches from the blue/yellow costume to the black/gray one. I don’t know if that was time constraints or intentional on Frank Miller’s part, but it’s interesting either way. Great video, you’ve gotta Return to the Dark Knight Returns!

This is not the conventional mainstream "Batman." This is the brutal ultra-violent Frank Miller version of Batman. This is an extreme interpretation of the character.

The Dark Knight Returns might just be my favourite Batman story
  • I never hear anyone complain about when spiderman in the 90's looked like Kurt Russel
  • TDKR is a pretty edgy story and I stand by that this has done irreperable damage to the modern image of how Batman is adapted, but I still really enjoy this movie and find it to be one of DC's best animated films with the voice acting, animation, and writing

I still go back and watch this at least once a year. Even tho we had to wait a bit for the second part but I’m glad it was included in the anniversary movie collection.

I find Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Animated Movie Adaptation even better than the actual Frank Miller's Graphic Novel it is based on.
  • I completely agree with Batman's philosophy, you have to deal with different people according to their mentality. These thugs only understand the language of violence and only respect the strong, and that's how he won them over. With such people a peaceful approach simply does not work, you cannot talk or negotiate with them because that would only embolden them further. Most idealist peace advocates think they can resolve all conflicts by talking while completely ignoring the fact that some people just cannot be reasoned with. We can draw many parrallels between the Dark knight returns and real life. And that's one of the reasons we love Batman, he gets things done because he's a realist not a naive idealist.
