I'm 62 years old and retired Over the Road Truck Driver. There wasn't no internet, satellite TV and cable TV was limited to certain areas. It was just radio stations and the signal was weak, unless you got near the city and town. Theses small town play a lot of Motown music at night. I brought a lot cheap soul music in these small towns. The music was on cassette tapes. It made it easy to travel over the road. Theses artists have no idea how they change the world and touch everyone hearts πŸ’•. They just don't make great music like that anymore. I brought a lot of Albums, 8-Track tapes and cassette tapes. These artists was a genius. Generations wealth and music is the only thing you should pass on to your children and grandchildren β€β€β€πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

I'm really good friends with Johnny Bristol daughter Karla Gordy Bristol & her mom Iris Gordy, Iris used to be married to Johnny. Big love to the Gordy family and Berry Gordy!
  • I bought one of his singles. "Hang on in There Baby" on MGM. I think he did an outstanding job producing "Someday We'll Be Together" for The Supremes, a Motown classic. It is possible his career did not take off because there were too many similarities in the style to Barry White. You can hear the similarity in some of the singles sampled in this video. Sounds like he had quite a career as a producer anyway.

I love Johnny Bristol. Love takes tears. The lyrics are everything in that song. Go on and dream the flip side. Hang on in there. I love talking bout Baby. Do it to my mind. And he wrote reaching out for your love. Underrated. We must do better honoring our singers and songwriters.
  • He was very talented. I didn't realize he produced so many hits that I personally loved 😍
  • @libertelibre
Johnny Bristol is one of my favorite singers. I love "Morganton North Carolina" especially.
  • Yes. I remember his name. I was young back then. Your covering on him is good. I remember his name on records. I could not have imagined, his work filled households, our life and culture. Yes. JB deserves full recognition. Thank you. I am happy to see our culture delivering our historic information so tactfully. You are taking me back.

Sad he doesn’t get the love he deserves!! My uncle as well Melvin Ragin aka Wah Wah Watson who also was a Motown rhythm guitarist. He played on Lets Get It On and Papa Was A Rolling Stone and countless hits with one guitar given to him by Ray Parker Jr. RIP unc!!!!!!
  • I appreciate you, my man!! I agree there are hundreds of black artists, writers and producers who actually had major success at some point in their careers that people either don't know about or remember. It is important that WE tell OUR story lest it be lost, stolen or bastardized. Keep it up and be well, King!!
