Farmland arc is what made this series for me. Elevated Thorfinns character to a whole new level that I had to start reading the manga because even the quieter moments are so compelling.

Season 2 weeds out all the kids.

Vinland Saga is so damn good glad to see people are liking season 2 despite how different it is.
  • @ExoticEio
As soon as Thors said “You don't have any enemies. No one has any enemies. There's no one who it's okay to hurt” I knew this show wasn’t about violence but about growth of a man in my opinion especially after reading the manga and passing where I am in the anime it’s truly a beautiful story.
  • It's funny cause people see the farmland arc as a departure when the prologue is there as a setup to this all along. You need the era of Thorfinns rage and quest for revenge against Askeladd for the future arcs of the series to work.

More so than the class dynamics, I like the way Vinland Saga portrays being a man. It swaps the stoic, constantly competitive and non-empathetic existence that ppl like Andrew Tate see as paradigms for a manhood that values strength in kindness.

For me, the farming scenes are fascinating. In the first season, all we are shown is killing, destroying and destruction but now we are seeing how hard it is so grow. How hard it is to farm, take care of the land that invaders destroy in a second. Like anything in life, it’s easy to break, it’s easy to destroy but it’s so hard to take care of something, how time consuming it is to nurture something. What a story

season 1 is so perfect cause it was like a slap in the face. I realized that I never even questioned the violence or the revenge, I let myself get swept up in the violence and Askeladd's question to Thorfinn was the biggest slap in the face i've had in a story where I realized something went over my head the entire time.

I'm danish, so I might be biased. But growing up learning about our history and ancestry in school, before the reformation, and just having to deep-dive into this viking era, learning about the times, the conquest, the kings, and the rise and the fall of the Kingdom, I mean; And then for a Japanese anime (haven't read the manga) to arrive out of left-field, hit me with a curveball straight on, and I've loved it so much!! It's been a blessing, I've never imagined such a fantastic retelling of our shared History (not excluding my nordic bros, and shout-out to the Great Isles). I've literally camped in Jelling, and been to most of the places they inhabit in Season 2, and it's so weird. Season 1 is just awesome, but season 2 is so far just amazing.
  • That is why i love manga like vinland saga, kingdom, vagabond which are based on actual historic events and the in depth character study and ideologies they provide about these famous people is just insane to me.

2nd season is also very good Story writing and character development is top notch in 2nd season.
  • Even the part on the farm is about violence and warfare because the slaves who are FORCED to work there are the victims of all the violence and destruction that the Vikings wrought. They are subject to constant humiliations by the retainers and their masters so the entire work emphasises the virtue of (and need for) non-violence because Einar and Thorfinn would not be in this position if it weren't for the raiding and pillaging that was part of the invasion of England. Vinland Saga is also directly about Thorfinn's internal conflict and how he wrestles with the guilt he feels over his violent past and how he decides to move forward, having recently lost his reason and desire to live and it's only thanks to people like Einar that he managed to find a way to eventually make peace with himself. This is a historical drama that treats its audience like adults.

6:17 is so telling, i couldnt agree more with joey. Berserk, vagabond, vinland saga, AOT, chainsawman and Pun Pun some of the biggest most popular manga and they all heavily dip into what's making us all tick i know it's why i love miuras work so much and fujimoto. They are excellent at making they're absolutley unhinged insane characters feel super grounded in reality, not relatable in the normal terms, But relatable in Humans terms. And i think that's something most artists and writers of any medium struggle with.

Season 2 is picking up like crazy I feel bad for the people who dropped it early on.
  • @bannana4058
Vinland saga has no joke has my favorite scenes of all time
  • @JigyasArt
Farmland saga give me my life lessons that no one ever taught me !! For me it is one of the best anime of all time along with aot!
  • @JesseAnderson
I was kind of lost what was going on with the farm arc for a bit, but once we dive into Thorfinn's trauma and emptiness, it all clicked into place. It's legitimately such a compelling character arc and so beautiful to see him understanding his Father so long after his death
  • @jjpasay
If Connor's looking for more Welsh representation, then there's King Arthur a.k.a. Artoria a.k.a Saber from Fate, along with some of her Kinghts.
  • @erin1569
The mangaka of Vinland Saga did something incredible. You are waiting for Thorfinn to mess someone up and keep thinking about how cool it would be if a fight broke out. But then, you get to the scene where Einar says to Thorfinn, "I don't see you as a warrior," and you realize that Thorfinn doesn't look or behave at all like the kid from season 1. We are conditioned to think of Thorfinn as a cool, violent warrior who would kill anyone without remorse, and then Einar sweeps the rug from beneath our feet. Not much later, a fight breaks out, and Thorfinn gets messed up. You finally start to notice the incredible contrast and how we were trapped into thinking of Thorfinn in terms of his past self.
  • Really hope other Seinen manga get adaptation like Vinland Saga animation. Still remember how Askelad is the MVP for season 1! will try watch season 2 when all work is done!
