  • Political? The anime which climatic point of one of its main arc is to burn down the flag of a totalitarian global government? The anime where all of the main characters are criminals? The anime that has at least 3 whole sagas dedicated to explore the race theory of a fantasy world? I think Hasan is just being delusional or something
  • Oda intentionally drew One Piece goofy so he could handle darker topics, his regular art style is very realistic
  • @Nitro-wg6sr
It was weird how the boys were actually against the idea of One Piece being really political, when that’s essentially a major part of the series itself
  • @Karlthuluu
One of the biggest political plots in One Piece is one that they didn't talk about in Drum Island, which literally is about privatized healthcare
  • @Doctor4077
I get Connor not noticing the politics of One Piece because he's new to it and he also consumes media at a very surface level in general. But how do Joey and Garnt, long term One Piece fans WHO HAVE BUILT THEIR CAREERS OUT OF ANALYZING MANGA AND ANIME, miss all of the politics in One Piece?
  • It's really strange when peoble are against the idea of one piece being political, when you only have to think about the plot of any arc for 3 seconds to realize It's ALL politics. It's baked in a fun adventure series, yes, but like... it's right in your face all the time
  • @JonasFootball
I have no idea how the boys don't understand Hasan's point when one of the main villains is legit the "World Government".
  • @goncalo473
That "what aspect?" by joey makes realize that he needs to re-watch One Piece as an adult. All the arcs and the world building are about politics.
  • @AlanJonesu
Word! I caught up on One Piece, the manga, in about two months. I expected yelling, Ora ora's, volleys of punches everywhere, "ikozeiii!", among other things. What I didn't expect was corruption, slavery, racism, genocide, tyranny, civil wars, coup de etat, drugs trafficking, child abuse, classism, 😳 like damn.
  • it's not the fact that One piece is political It's not the fact that Connor didn't know one piece is political It's the fact that Joey and Garnt DIDN'T know one pice is political is what kills me 💀
  • @micael01
Hasan is saying all that, and he did not start the Fishmen arc, that talks DIRECTLY about racism, that traces parallels to the history of the fight against racism in america. HOW Joey and Garnt didn't notice the politicals motivation behind one piece is mind blowing
  • @slicerh248
I still don’t understand how you can watch/read One Piece and not think it’s political. You genuinely would just have to be turning the page and not reading.
  • @keno4770
One piece is so overtly political that it’s actually a little sad that they were disagreeing. Cant tell if Connor Joey and Garnt have like bare none media literacy or what 💀

As someone lives in Thailand, I saw a lot of One Piece manga panal used political meme and it felt like Oda researched Thai political history for that phrase in the panal.
  • The fact that the marines were prepared to murder a baby because his father was king of the pirates under any other story would sound like a political thriller to most people.
  • @IanIDV
OP is incredibly political, it just isn't nearly as black and white, aggressive, and in your face as 99% of political stuff you see. It's pretty rare that a piece of media can make politics not just tolerable, but enjoyable
  • @ApexGale
Luffy invades an extremely secure military facility with the intent to free someone who has been sentenced to death by a regime he has strong hatred for not once, but twice. Anyone who thinks he is not a terrorist is deluding themselves - he is actively anti-establishment and goes to various lengths to make his stance abundantly clear. Shooting down the flag of the WG, breaking pirates out of prison, attempting to halt Ace's execution, punching a Celestial Dragon in the face. What more proof do you need
  • @TheBasedGreeg
This is very, very weird to me. Connor is Monkey, but Joey and Garnt usually have insightful commentary on a lot of art. Them being shocked and resistant to a very left leaning, anarchist manga series is just insane to me. Like how did they completely miss everything of substance? It’s a little more than Rubber boi vs Magma man guys… 😅
  • Geniunly felt dissappointed none of them could even fathom One Piece is political. Like, what were you paying attention to?
  • @ChrisJoestarr
I'm surprise by the guys reaction like it's pretty obvious one piece is literally one of the most political animes like pretty clear, i mean the whole plot revolved around it
