As far as the Zoro being a cop thing in the real world goes I'm p sure Oda is referring to him likely becoming a Japanese cop. This has ties to Zoro learning at a "Kendo" dojo in his youth. Most of the Kendo legends from Japan, like the cream of the crop, winning national tournaments level for Kendo are Japanese cops. The Minority Hunter Zoro memes are fucking hilarious tho lol.
  • You all are asking "Is luffy brazilian?" but here in Brazil we dont even stutter while saying that xD
  • Oda actually did the country where the one piece main characters came from if they were from our world, Luffy is Brazilian in that aspect.
  • I always liked FMA character designs for ethnicity...you can tell that the characters are a certain ethnicity by looking at them (except for Roy, dude could be white or asian idk), and they still all look like anime characters that belong in the same world sometimes a show will have all there characters look like anime characters, then theres just a black guy with a totally different art style there too...its kinda jarring

“I got to the gym and mf’s are watching One Piece on the treadmills” Mfw watching a podcast talk about One Piece on a treadmill 👁️👄👁️

Luffy less goofy!? Buster call on this guy! Racist Zoro is something that I never noticed and it is fantastic haha
  • Every now and again I have to remember that Rebecca is supposed to be 16. I don't know what in the water in the New World, but I'm convinced it's tied to the All Blue. You know it's gotten out of control when Koala seems moderately sized by comparison. Honestly, what happened to you, Oda? hides away pictures of Post-Timeskip One Piece characters in pocket

I think the biggest issue I have is that men in One Piece are allowed to have all sorts of body types, but women have 2. Hot, or ugly. This stems from a larger issue a lot of artists have where they are able to depict men with a multitude of body types, while only knowing how to draw one or two body types for women. Even my favorite manga Berserk fell into this trap, and Miura is a top tier artist.

So Oda says they are all speaking English, since it was the tradertongue of the pirate era, and as for nationality: Luffy: Brazilian, Zoro: Japanese, Nami: Swedish, Ussop: African, Sanji: French, Chooper:Canadian, Robin: Russian. Franky: American, Brook: Austrian, Jinbei: Indian.
  • Dutch from Black Lagoon is the best (design wise) black character in anime/manga. change my mind
  • @bubbles000
Honestly considering the male counterparts, their design isn’t really an issue. The criticism mostly comes from the lack of variety.

I remember a friend told me that Oda draws an X when he draws his women and honestly it makes sense when I see One Piece women lol
  • @Ridlay_
I've started One Piece in more recent times, and it's interesting to me because I feel like it gets worse over time with how women are drawn. Best example, look at the progression of Nami's outfits.
  • Im ok with the sexy shots and stuff. Its provocatie and humorous. But the body types can get a bit boring sometypes from an artistic perspective. Thats why Amazon lily was very refreshing in that aspect. All woman were wearing revealing clothes but each was different. I mean Tashigi was just too much post time skip to the point of loosing her attractiveness.
  • Funny enough, love durarar have loved it for years, and I never noticed how Simon's design could be controversial until my cousin pointed it out. She saw the cover and asked why he looked like Jim crow art 😅
