Set Your Priorities and Honor Them

Anne Walsh, chief investment officer of Guggenheim Partners, has spent her 40-year career in a male-dominated field. “When I started in the business, I was often the only female in the room,” Walsh said.

Though women are still sorely underrepresented in investment management, Walsh, a philanthropist and supporter of Girls Who Invest, believes the field holds great opportunity for women. For five years in a row, Walsh has been named among Barron’s top 100 most influential women in U.S. finance.

In an interview with her daughter, UCLA Anderson MBA student Kat Friese (’24), Walsh talked about the importance of setting priorities in the course of your life and career. Bring along your family to enjoy your success together. She set the record straight on the myth of the work-life balance, saying, “It doesn’t exist. On any given day, it’s a push-pull.”
