This is why you test on 1 isolated computer, for at least a week, before you update all. Non of these people know, you can reboot to a previous version you had. So no one knows basic computer tech, on maintaining your computer.

These blue screen lock ups and boot hangs have plagued Microsoft systems for decades. If institutions want easier to maintain, lower cost, more secure systems.. Why don't they use Unix, Linux, or BSD (or Mac) operating systems?

I have zero experience with such dramatic travel problems. One time, a five hour delay due to a strike. I normally fly intercontinental. Americans in general simply expect too much.

Diversity is a potential help. Half the systems should be windows based and the ither half IOS or Linux based. Half the data circuits one carrier and the other half a different carrier network. Half one anti-virus package and half another different anti-virus package. Update IT workstations first, then mission critical in stages. Etc etc
