  • This is where I'm going to start. My mental health is suffering so bad, and my apartment looks like a depressed person lives here. Dishes look like science experiments, half empty cups of drinks. Maybe waking up and falling asleep in a clean bedroom will help me get motivated to clean other rooms. Your videos never disappoint.
  • "Cleaning for myself, for my own peace of mind." - I believe in this mindset. Thank you for the pep talk, Cas!
  • Hey Cass, I came back to this video to tell you how this mindset shift has drastically improved my home life! Honestly, I thought it was crazy - clean your room first? Ridiculous lol. But I feel like I've tried so many things to get control of my home, & they haven't worked, so might as well try this. In the last few weeks, I've kept my room clean & have noticed a lot of changes. I wasn't mad or frustrated with the mess in my house & having to clean up after others; I would clean with no negative thoughts. I was more relaxed at bedtime. Guess what? My husband noticed my change, and has been cleaning without me asking!! My kids don't fight back when I ask them to do something! My whole household has stepped up to support what I want, so I don't have to nag. It feels like we are a team now, instead of me doing it all on my own. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I've never felt better or been happier :)
  • Lol, I can remember as a kid completely covering myself from head to toe with the blankets to protect against bad things that might be under the bed. I still can't sleep without a quilt, but as a 50 year old woman, it's a breathable all cotton quilt, and one foot out. Also, a little fan on the night stand helps too.
  • I was organizing my whole apartment this week but I still felt so stressed and then I finally focused on my bedroom and so much weight was taken off my shoulders . I been doing the 15 min cleaning everything a day everyday and deep cleaning one room a day. I also started going to sleep and making sure I leave the sink clean and kitchen clean and it feels amazing waking up to a clean kitchen . It been making enjoy cleaning a lot
  • Totally agree. When my room is cluttered or disheveled, I feel bogged down and overwhelmed
  • My room is ALWAYS the last place to get cleaned. I can't wait to try this mindset shift!! Also - you're not alone with the blanket thing. I can't fall asleep without a blanket covering my neck, cause ya know, that'll stop vampires
  • You are so right! I’ve had 3 years of tragedy and loss and it is reflected in the state of my home! I lost my granddaughter to SIDS and my daughter to suicide. It’s time to work on healing, and this is the place for me to begin! Thank you!
  • Thank you for this! My bedroom is a disaster right now, and I had planned to tackle another part of the house today. But, I’m going to focus instead on the bedroom. I just spent 2 weeks traveling, and love coming back every night to a clean room, with a neatly made bed. It’s one of my favorite things about traveling. I don’t know why I never thought to recreate this same experience at home! So, today is the day. Thanks for turning that light on in my brain! And, vampires… sheet and blanket(s) up to my chin wards off the vampires…which totally works because I have never been bitten while sleeping!
  • Mind blown! 🤯 I think this concept of ‘my own tidy space that I deserve’ is gonna be a game changer for me! Once again….Cas, you are my hero!!! 💖😉
  • This video was like therapy! I have just been scraping by with housework and feeling it. My only goal is to keep it "not disgusting." Because clutter is okay, gross is not. It's a pretty low standard, but it's attainable ; ) And you're right. My room is where I hide everything when people come over. I do put myself last. I don't hide things in my kids room when people come over ,because then I would be a "bad mother." Anyway, I really needed to hear this. Thankyou💜Thankyou🧡Thankyou💙 For 30 days, I will commit to making my room a sanctuary.
  • I actually took this advice and got out all the decorating stuff I was storing for my bedroom for "after everything else in the house is perfect". I've been doing a little each day and it's bringing me so much joy.
  • OMG...I'm in the exact same mind set when it comes to the need for heavy blankets even when it is too warm for it. I thought I was the only crazy person feeling this way. I put a foot out too, which gives some temporary relief but the thought of someone coming in and grabbing it makes me quickly move it back in and stay uncomfortably warm. That is too crazy!!
  • The blanket is like getting a hug which was how we felt safe as little kids. Many people who need a weighted blanket are those that especially need the feeling of a hug and safety to fall asleep so the blanket thing makes total sense! Time to focus more on my room now, I’ve got other areas pretty well under control with routines, decluttering, and even paint touch ups, etc. Guess I went backwards to this idea. Bedroom is getting the bulk of my summer break attention this week!
  • This video totally spoke to me. I felt like you were reading my exact thoughts. Constantly cleaning to make an appearance in those high traffic areas for everyone else except for myself and then my own bedroom, my office/craft room was a last priority. So I gave up. I stopped cleaning and stopped caring bc I felt nobody else cared so why should I. Seems only I was the only one in my family that cared about things having a home. So I stopped. And now I am hitting that reset button and doing this for me. Not anyone else. But for me. My home, my entire home is my haven and I am doing this for me. And starting with my bedroom first bc yes that is my retreat. Thank you for you!!! 💜
  • This is such an on time video! I was so upset yesterday as I’ve been on my organization this year. And you literally took the words out of my mouth!!! “Feeling disrespected (and unappreciated) by family” wow. Thank you!!!
  • A clean orderly bedroom is a must for me! Thank you for reenforcing this! When I was 4 or 5 years old, my cousin was spending the night with us. We were laying on my bed, staring out into the dark backyard. He asked me if I knew what was out there in the dark. I was naming all the obvious stuff: trees, grass, garage, and so on. Then he said, “ Know what else? KIDNAPPERS! (He really emphasized that, so I did!) I am now 70 years old and to this day I have to sleep with a nightlight on so I won’t be kidnapped!😂🤣
  • You are so right! I redid a bedroom in my home recently for myself and it is the most put together, orderly room in the house. It feels like a sanctuary for me. I always catch a family member (we are 6) standing at the doorway to my room admiring it...I always say, "don't be jealous!"...Lol I make my bed right away after getting up in the mornings and hang my pj's on a hook in the closet specifically attached for that purpose btw. The KEY is to have a place for everything and everything in its place and keep your surfaces decluttered. Think about what you want in your room and plan accordingly. I sometimes stand at the doorway to admire it also, it motivates me to want the rest of my home looking as put together as my bedroom. This is the first time I have been able to finish a room exactly the way I wanted and it feels like such a great accomplishment...it feels great being in that room. It will be easier to do the rest of the house as my family now can see what I am trying to accomplish with the rest of the house. On to another room! Side note: I did this in stages starting the day after Memorial Day...it took me about six weeks to finish. I do go through days of feeling very sad and depressed, but I fight through it trying to keep busy and doing something I look forward to. Having this room done the way I wanted it, with my stuff, helps me to feel like taking better care of myself, like I need to keep doing good things for myself...I matter too. Do something good for yourself!

Your explanation for not “cleaning for other people” is so relatable. Sometimes I do clean to feel better and I always feel like “im cleaning because I should/have to”
