As many residents of the D.C. Metropolitan area fear another up in violence, Prince George County mom Tiffani Evans recalls the day her son, 8-year-old Peyton John “PJ” Evans, was accidentally shot and killed in a drive-by shooting last summer. PJ had been in the middle of enjoying his dinner at his aunt’s house, PlayStation controller in hand, when the bullets rang out. “Everybody still hurt. It’s still a nightmare to everybody,” his mother says. Inside Edition Digital’s Johanna Li has more.

We live in a world where our children aren’t even safe in our homes eating dinner & playing video games. As a father this terrifies me….. rest in paradise little man 😔

That’s a little baby , I am so emotional for her. To carry a child for nine months, to raise and mold your child into the man he should be . It’s so heartbreaking. My heart is so heavy for this mother, a pain you’ll never forget.
  • It's incredible how well this mother held her tears telling this story.

"They didn't have the lights on the ambulance! I ain't stupid!" I felt that so deeply! Prayers going up for this mother and all who knew and loved young PJ!

I understand her pain. My son was 33 when he went missing for almost a year before I found out he was shot in the head in cold blood by a so called trusted friend. I've never been the same I miss him every day. A Mother's love for her child is forever and ever💔

He sounded like the most adorable little baby boy. The way he talked, reminds me of an old soul in a child's body. I'm so sorry for your loss Mama.

The hardest part about being a gamer is never seeing that one friend get online again and wondering what happened. We make friends and then sometimes stuff like this happens and we never know.
  • I'm not a mother but I feel for her. I lost 5 friends throughout my life, all due to murder and suicide. I know losing a child is different than losing a friend. May this Angel rest in peace and may his family have the strength to get through life with memories of him. Rest in peace PJ, fly high little angel

Rest easy PJ. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ A momma should never have to bury their child. My heart goes out to this mom and all moms with angel babies. 💕
  • The way this mother smiles and lights up when she talks about her son demonstrates a true love for her child. Although I’m sorry for her loss, I’m extremely grateful that God allowed PJ’s last day on earth to be filled with friends, family, and football; he did what he loved to do and was full of joy and accomplishment. He enjoyed the championship game, his teammates, his family, his video game, and even his last meal! Despite her loss, this mom continues to pour into those boys in the community and on his team. I pray that God continues to use you to be a blessing to others. I also pray that He gives you, your son, your family, and PJ’s teammates and their parents strength, comfort, and peace. Rest In Peace, PJ! Your eternal jersey awaits you in Heaven!!!
