Luffys tenacity is what makes him a legend to me, idk how you can watch his fights with arlong, crocodile and Rob Lucci and still just boil him down to some stupid guy. He feels genuine anger on behalf of the oppressed, he sheds tears for his friends gets the shit beaten out of him putting his life on the line for others. He does often put them in a difficult situation, but because his intentions are always to help the oppressed, those people end up joining his side and balancing the scales, resulting in a super satisfying victory after a steep and tenacious uphill climb.

Luffy is the simple solution to complex problems. Sanji being trapped on Baratie due to a debt is solved by Luffy saying to “just leave”, his solution to Nami’s financially slavery by Arlong is just “ok I’ll beat him up”. His neutrality to everything around him and make the simpliest solutions come true is always wonderful

Still unfortunate to hear he hated the first 300 episodes so much 😭 definitely starts peaking around water seven but i got hooked at like baratie or arlong park

I always feel so sorry for him when he talks about how slow the pacing is. Poor guy doesn't know he's still in the "fast-paced" era that actually adapts more than 10 pages per episode

I feel like so many of Charlie's criticisms can be resolved by simply reading the manga (pacing issues, maintaining interest without dragging on, and shorter flashbacks iirc)

Starting at Thriller Bark I only watch the manga canon episodes and that works wonders for the one piece grind. Happy watching Charlie!

I love how Charlie was just like us when we started one piece. “Nobody dies I hate it!” Then Oda started to cook now we don’t want anybody important to die anymore😭

The scene in enies lobby where robin says she wants to live, that whole sequence never fails to make me cry. Shit hits me hard

you should try one pace. it makes the pacing so much better and removes filler. after timeskip it is torture

Welcome to the journey 💜 glad you finally started to enjoy it. I had basically the same experience as you took me around 2 years to get to where you at but, as like you did started to enjoy it thoroughly that being said and tbh it’s changed my life. It gets better.

The thing about Luffy before time skip is that Luffy is very casual, outgoing and carefree. But after some events he gets serious and realises that his actions have consequences.

That "300 episodes before it actually starts getting good" is the era of one piece millions of one piece fans wish for to happen again, more interaction with crew, more chill island travel, time on the ship, you cant statisfy everyone i guess, its why some of the show is slice of life other dark and serious and other is fights and action, it has something for everyone, a show kids can watch and adults can enjoy

Enies Lobby and Water 7 is probably the best arc hands down.
