Korean-War Vet tries REAL Korean food 72 years later!

My grandfather (a Canadian) felt the exact same way about his return to Canada that this chap did. He was so embarrassed about how poorly his own country treated him that he threw all his medals out, and not as a young man, but in his 60s or 70s after he returned to Korea and was treated with utmost respect. He loved the Korean people and had nothing but nice things to say about them.

My father fought in Korea in the U.S. Air Force. His air wing was based in Niigata, Japan, but he spent some time in Korea and he loved the country. We always wanted to visit the places he saw and served, but he passed from lung cancer way too early.

Wow, he is absolutely quick witted and spry for 90. Not to mention, he doesn't look a day over 70! My grandfather served in the Korean war, but he passed before I was born. I feel as though hearing stories of other veterans from then can help bring me closer to his life's story. Thanks for sharing.

대한민국을 지켜주신 모든 참전용사님들. 여러분들은 이 대한민국을 파멸의 위기에서 구하신 진정한 영웅이십니다. 머나먼 이국땅인 대한민국을 위해 쉽지 않은 결정에도 불구하고 한걸음에 달려와 대한민국을 구해주신 모든 참전용사님. 너무나 존경하고 너무나 감사하고 맘깊이 사랑합니다. 늘 강건하시고 여러분들의 일상과 가정에 늘 신의 축복이 가득하시길 진심으로 바랍니다. 대한민국은 영원히 여러분들을 잊지 않겠습니다.

당시에는 이름모를 타지였던 한국을 위해 창창했던 젊은 날의 인생을 걸고 싸워주신것 만으로도 한국인으로서 매우 감사하고 가슴 먹먹해지는 이야기입니다. 오히려 한국에 은혜를 입었다고 말하시는 걸 보면서, 우리나라가 평생 이분들의 희생과 노고를 기억하고 보답해야 한다고 느낍니다. 당신의 희생이 있었기에 오늘날의 대한민국이 있을수 있었습니다. Thank you for your service.

My grandfather went to Korea as well and served at the Swedish Red Cross hospital camp.. the only hospital that both took in and treated people from both army sides and also took alot out of their way to help the civilans. Alan sounds to have had kind of the same experience. My grandfather were to be joining the olympics as a runner but turned it down in order to be able to go to Korea to help the people and were a true hero to me.

His poem brought a tear to my eye. Such a beautiful soul. I pray this man many happy years serving as the liaison and voice for those men and women who didn’t come home. Much love from a Yank Veteran.

My grandpa was a Korean War veteran. He died before I could ask him any questions about it. The only photos I have are him working at a Korean orphanage, playing with the kids. He loved working with children, so I'm not surprised that he spent lots of time there trying to help them.

감사합니다. 남의 나라에 파병와주신 외국의 용사분들과 이 땅에 그 시절 어린 나이에 전장터에서 싸워주셨던 우리 할아버지와 아버지들께 모두 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 자유는 공짜로 얻어지는 게 아니고 싸우고 지켜야 한다는 걸 가슴 속에 다시 새깁니다.

우리 대한민국을 위해 목숨 바치신 모든 참전용사분들께 진심으로 감사드립니다 당신들 덕분에 제가 살고있네요...

"The Korean people are the ones who've done all the work to make such a wonderful country" So true. They rose from literal ashes. And what a beautiful, humble statement to make. I'm used to the idea of soldiers and veterans (in America, at least) being quite arrogant and puffing their chests out at going to help the "needy" folks in "lesser" countries (completely disregarding the suffering of the native people and our own roles in creating the conflict). This man is nothing of the sort. You can feel the genuine respect and admiration he has for Korea in his voice and eyes. He doesn't consider himself a hero, but rather a person who did the right thing for humanity's sake. Bravo.

This made me very emotional. My grandfather was a Korean War veteran and he passed away 12 years ago. I wish I would have asked him more about his experiences there as well as his feelings about it later in his life. He was such a hardworking and caring man. I hope he knew that his valiant work wasn’t in vain and Koreans still show their gratitude. I appreciate you making this video. 감사합니다 💜
