This video is quite different to any other on our channel. We found out while filming that despite going to Korea 70 years ago, the Brigadier had never tried Korean BBQ before. We obviously wanted to give him an amazing experience of Korean food and show him a small part of Korea's incredible development since the war, but as we shared this lovely Korean meal with him the food became less of a focus as he generously shared some of his story with us. He was extremely complimentary of everything he ate and tried, and he seemed to be genuinely enjoying himself, but what really left an impact on us was his honesty and insight as a British soldier who saw Korea long before we were ever born.

when he spoke about smoking together with the chinese soldiers and said 'soldiers don't start wars', that hit me the hardest, the tears just started pouring down.

When Brian the brigadier talked about how he shared cigarettes with the chinese soldiers after the ceasefire and said soldiers hadn’t start the war, i teared up. The anecdote reminds me of the book Slaughterhouse 5 (by Kurt Vonnegut) and how all wars are childrens crusades. Loved this episode. Thanks.

Despite the topic of the video being a heavy one, exceptionally for us Koreans, I appreciate how the Brigadier explained his perspective of the war in a very comprehensible and lighthearted way. I'm american and my grandpa fought in the Korean war. He was my best bud who passed away from lung cancer in 2013. He loved Korea and the people. This just warmed my heart so much. Thank you for doing this!

My late father was a colonel of 6th Div. of Korean Army during the Korean War and he would often told me about the Korean war and friendships with allied forces like British and U.S. Coincidence or not, some 40 years later I finished my military service in the 25th Div. of ROK army near Seolma-ri, where, perhaps near the battle field of your account, lots of British infantry servicemen sacrificed themselves to defend Korea against communist North and China. Now I am turning into my 50s to find out your story thanks to 영국남자(Thanks Ollie and friends!) Words can't convey my appreciation enough for you, Sir. Here's my cordial, utmost and sincere respect from the bottom of my heart. Thank you and Long live Brigadier General, Sir!

이건 정말 많은 사람들이 봐야합니다. 20살 한창 파릇파릇하던때에 목숨 바쳐 한국에서 북한군을 상대로 우리나라를 지켜내신 정말 위대한 분이신데 이렇게 완벽한 식사까지 드시고 한국을 다시 추억해주시니 정말 마냥 감사한 마음뿐 입니다. 진심으로 감사합니다.
