As a 5th generation Florida cracker. This book brings me home. And makes me wish I was born 100 years sooner.

This was my Daddy's favorite book. His family were Florida crackers who settled on the land which is now Highlands Hammock State Park. I love hearing all the old stories and history! Thank you

This should be a movie. This actor is phenomenal, his memory becomes the memory of McIvey. I was captivated and enthralled. I started reading this book recommended by an old high school friend who is now a cracker cowboy, retired. Loved this portrayal of the book's main character, and felt I was listening to the real experience of this man of those days.

I love this book, I have read it three times and plan to read it again. I'm a 5th generation Floridian. Mister is a great story teller but he seems confused on the direction of flow, beginning and end of the St. Johns river.

Reminds me of my grandpa. He came to Florida in 1914 with a mule and wagon but not much else.

What a beautiful story every time I hear stories like this one I imagine everything on my mine like when we are watching a movie. Thank sir for a wonderful story. I grow up with Apache Indians & cowboys at my grandfather’s cattle ranch so this story brought back tears of joy because we used to share our rabbits & also jack rabbits with the Apache Indians but I still remember the very first time I gave the Indians 5 rabbits they gave me in return some of their baskets that they made, & I remember I told the chief no is not necessary for you to give me your baskets & he told me if you do not accept my baskets we won’t accept your rabbits. Wow that was then. I am it Technician now but I sure miss when I was a cowboy I will never forget working with so loyal Indians... God bless y’all...
