Betty offers to take her nephew Junior to see the carnival. Before they can leave the house, it starts to thunder and rain, making it impossible to attend the carnival. Betty's upstair's neighbor Grampy saves the day by using his crazy inventions to turn the apartment (and eventually, even the whole house with a huge umbrella covering it) into a circus. -

My mouth dropped open at the end with the 3D effect(I’m guessing they built a diorama and spliced in the animation... the effect is flawless!!) This is the kind of movie magic that really sparks a sense of wonder. Whereas everything is just explained by CGI now, old films really had that “How’d they do that??” effect!

Actually his inventions were pretty clever!

I love that junior gets soap, fills the sink with soapy water, then grabs a towel and rubs his face on that and didn’t touch the water 😂😂
  • I remember watching this cartoon and I forgot about how impressed I was at the last part with the whole 3D umbrella building spinning around.

The apartment building and some of the furniture looks quite modern for being 84 years ago

Kids, don't try this at home, especially the part at 3:57 . These are professional cartoon characters with special training and years of experience.

i cannot begin to describe how nostalgic this is for me. my mom had a huge collection of classic cartoons she raised me on like betty boop, felix the cat, casper the ghost, tom & jerry, you name it. glad i can rediscover and re-watch all this stuff and feel the nostalgia to come with it.

AH! I knew I recognized that Grampy man ... he also played in this vintage Christmas cartoon that me and siblings watched as young kids called "Christmas Comes but Once a Year". I see he's always helping the little kids out!
