Great tip, Doctor Gretchen! Thank you! I remember having this while waiting in a doctor's office. Nice to know what to do if it arises in the future. 😊

Thank you for putting a name to this! I have it sometimes, but have never been able to find what it’s called.
  • Brilliant video Dr. Gretchen! I am betting many people will benefit from the explanation and Simple way to deal with it! Thanks!

Can this happen to people without ms or upper motor nueron lesions or does it always mean sicknesses? Ive had this for a few years on and off when i do certain movement's

I have this in my right leg exactly as you showed. Can it be caused by deconditioning? I have severe ME and am mostly in bed. I notice this when I sit in a chair. Thanks.

I get clonus only at night in the muscle outside my shin on my left leg. It is extremely disruptive to my sleep. Do you have any suggestions for things to do for this? I have tried A LOT! Warm water on the area before bed (sometimes with epsom salts in a bath), massage before bed, medical marijuana before bed, compression socks, essential oils, Baclofen (up to 20 mg), sleeping in different positions, stress relieving techniques (meditation, massage, reiki)… it kind of ebbs and flows, I’ll have an ok week of sleep, then a horrible week. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Dr Gretchen, On your video i can see that you are able to trigger the clonus. I can initiate the movement same as shown on your video. Because you can do it, do you have a medical concern ? Because i am able to do it also, that mean tha i have a problem or everybody can do it? is it normal to being able to initiate clonus ? I precise that i can initiate only when the angle is bent. I can do that since all my life. Thank you.
  • Is there a more permanent fix for clonus ? I get clonus on stationary bike but is there any way that it does not trigger clonus even in bended ankle position?

I tried the at home test and it didn't do anything, but can you please tell me why when I am sitting with both feet flat on the ground, and then I raise the heel (but ball of foot remains on the ground) my legs start shaking? Ps I find that quite relaxing, reminds me of those old fashioned vibrating exercise/massage belts 😁
  • @johnrvt
Is clonus exacerbated by muscle fatigue? I only notice it when I am doing calf raises or have done a lot of cardio. After, my leg tends to be clonic. Oddly, when I tried the clonus test at home the ankle didn’t get bouncy.
  • @CHRISRepAZ
I honestly don't think it can be fixed but probably can be improved because there are lesions in the case of MS
  • @AH-du8ck
So why did I get clonus after strokes ¿
  • @shammaz2274
I am trying to bring my feet together .will stationery bike help???
  • @ramazan9857
I was diagnosed with MS 2 years ago. I am 22 years old. I don't want to be disabled. When will there be a treatment that stops the myelin repairing the disease? I'm heading towards suicide.
  • Unfortunately, this doesn't fix anything, really. It's like saying you can fix baldness by wearing a hat. It's not like you can just flatten out your angle as you walk.
