Dizziness or vertigo due to cervical spine or cervical musculoskeletal issues is not uncommon. Exercises to treat such cervicogenic vertigo or dizziness can be performed at home to help minimize if not resolve this problem. Here are 10 exercises to be performed twice a day beginning with passive range of motion exercises followed by isometric exercises.

Dizziness can be experienced with these exercises. When such vertigo spells happen, stop and wait for symptoms to resolve before resuming the exercises. Over weeks to months, the cervicogenic dizzy symptoms should improve.

However, if any pain, tingling, or numbness occurs, stop the exercises and contact your spine specialist for further evaluation and recommendations.

Passive Range of Motion Exercises
#1: Head Shake (0:49)
#2: Head Nod (1:26)
#3: Ear to Shoulder (2:09)
#4: Head Nod Over Shoulder (2:59)
Isometric Exercises
#5: Chin Tuck Raises (3:57)
#6: Head Rotation - Neutral (4:40)
#7: Head Rotation - End Range (5:57)
#8: Ear to Shoulder - Neutral (6:46)
#9: Ear to Shoulder - End Range (7:34)
#10: Back Head Bend (8:16)

  • These are the best exercises for cervicogenic dizziness! I do these exercises every day, twice a day. The dizzy symptoms gradually went away. Now, after 3 weeks, I'm feeling 95% better. I've also started taking magnesium glycinate. Thank you!!!

I suffer from severe vertigo episodes (where the room is spinning) which usually lasts around 8 to 12 hours. Then for a few days after ill feel a bit off and slugish. Can bppv present itself differently though or does it start withan initial severe debilitating few hours? Reason i ask is for 3 weeks now ive been experiencing randon light headedness accompanied with an off balance sensation. Is it possible for the crystals to be partially in the incorrect positions which would induce a lighter or different case of vertigo? Thanks.
