Dry Eyes: Living with Multiple Sclerosis Unseen Challenges

Since I was about 19 I started having problems with my eyes, turns out (18 years later) I have dry eye syndrome. It was some of the worst times for years because I didn't realise what the problem was, I constantly had gritty, burning itching sensations in both eyes and no-one seemed to know why.
Until about 3 years ago when I went to a opticians appointment for a regular check up, however I'd moved house and was transferred to this opticians and it was the lady here who picked up that I had severe dry eyes. Note I use past tense as the advice she gave me that day and the products she recommended and showed me how to use have changed my dry eyes hopefully forever šŸ¤ž.
I've gone from never being able to wear makeup to wear nice mascara and eyeliner, but more importantly for me I got my confidence back. My eyes were so severely impacted by dryness that I avoided social situations and was extremely depressed for many years.
I owe that lady so much and I'm forever grateful to her.

The eye cleaning lotion is - blephasol.
If you live in the UK then I find the best place to purchase this is from boots the chemist (they also have a buy one get one half price on at the moment - Oct 2022)

You can purchase this on amazon -

The eye mask is optase heat mask. Can be purchased from boots too if in the UK, but also brought online. Just double check it's the genuine one. Here's a link to one of the cheaper ones I've found

The eyedrops are Thealoz Duo. Also can be purchased from boots the chemist or any other good chemist. But can also be purchased online. Another link to cheaper drops than boots.

Other things I do to help:

Eat a good quantity of oily fish per week like mackeral and salmon.

I also take a high dose omega 3 vitamin.

I try and drink the recommended 2 litres of water a day, as our eyes can get just as dehydrated as our body and brain.

If I'm wearing mascara, I will always opt for the hypoallergenic option - a little bit pricier but well worth it I think for less irritation šŸ‘

  • Having had severe dry eyes since I was 19, 3 years ago I was shown how to manage this condition with a 3 tier treatment process and I've never looked back. I hope this video helps anyone that may have dry eyes.
  • I had dry eyes for over 15 years. The most horrible symptoms. I would wake up and could not open or close my eyes without extreme pain. I would have to splash water on my eyes several times before I could blink them properly. It felt like arthritis and would blur my vision. It cleared up several years ago just like that, but now my eyes are too wet, as if crying, causing blurring, this in addition to optic nerve and brain damage that was already blurring, dimming, and scarring my vision. Glad you found a fix...you were lucky.
