Are we Israel? A response to Michael of Olive Branch Fellowship

Published 2023-01-05
In Romans 11, the apostle Paul talks about the Gentiles being grafted in. But what are they grafted into? This is an issue when it comes to Torahism. (aka Hebrew Roots) because many Torah-keepers say that Gentiles who come to faith in Jesus become citizens of Israel, and are now, therefore, subject to the Law that God gave to Israel at Mount Sinai. In this video, we look at one such teaching from Olive Branch Fellowship and tackle the question "What is Israel?" in as much detail as we can. We'll also discuss the distinction between Jews and Gentiles in Scripture, and what it means for a Gentile to come to faith in the Jewish Messiah and be “grafted in.”

I am ethically Jewish, and a Christian. What the gentiles are grafted into is the PROMISE that God gave us Jews:. That He would be our God, and we would be His people. Jesus is the SEED (not seeds) of Abraham. Through Him all the earth is blessed. If you be in Christ…..THEN you be the seed of Abraham.
  • Michael's not hiding from anyone, I think he's simply not promoting himself. Also he's primarily speaking to people who have continuity with Olive Branch Fellowship.
  • Coming out of Egypt, was a MIXED MULTITUDE. Those descendants of Israel AND Egyptians who chose to be grafted in. God has always had a grafting in plan from the beginning of establishing Abraham and his family as God's chosen people. Always.... Mercy from the beginning....
  • Hey bro, I think the reason these 'dots' you referred to in the beginning aren't all in the video is because Michael's videos aren't geared towards one-time viewers who are only going to view one video and not others, rather his videos are are mainly uploaded for the benefit of his own congregation who are already very familiar with the 'dots' or towards people who are going to watch his other videos. Michael's teachings have played a crucial role in the development of my faith and understanding of the Scriptures. I only say this because I can see there are a few people here in the comments talking about how they're trying to 'break free' from the Hebrew Roots Movement. My question is: why do you want to break free from the truth? The Scriptures constantly talk about how amazing the Torah is - sweeter than honey from the comb and more precious than fine gold according to the Psalmist (Psalm 19) so you guys are missing out :( If anyone has any doubt about Torah observance go straight to Acts 24:5 where Paul identifies himself as not just a believer of but RINGLEADER of the sect of the Nazarenes, then go and have a look at what the early church fathers have to say about these Nazarenes. Spoiler: they didn't know how to deal with them because they were considered neither Christians nor Jews but Believed in Messiah and kept the Torah of Moses - Kinda reminds me of that passage in Revelation 12 where it talks about those who hold fast to the Testimony of Messiah AND keep the Commands of God. Hope this comment didn't come off as rude or pushy, and I can appreciate the respect shown here in the video towards OBF.

In my opinion Michael is the best teacher out there and He is hearing the heart of Elohim too.

We are grafted in, we don't replace Israel. We become part of the commonwealth of Israel. There is no Gentile gate in the New Jerusalem.
  • His full name is Michael Ordmon and He is an epic teacher of Yah's Word.. Blessings and Shalom.
  • It's a covenant thing. Walking in His commandments and guarding them. It is a calling into a discipleship by Abba and His instructions He left for the whole world to find waiting. Be blessed Mishpachah John 6:44-45 4E2SE2H COOHMP TESHUVA

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Galatians 3:28).
  • I happened on Mr. Solberg's youtube channel by chance. I am a gentile who attends a Messianic Jewish Synagogue. We are not a Torah observant body of believers because it is impossible to keep the "enitre" Torah and if you break one part of the Mosaic Law you have broken all of it. Instead we believe that Jesus accomplished it all on the cross. Mr. Solberg's teaching is the clearest and most bibical teaching I have heard on this. I am thrilled to have discovered this bibical man of God and can't wait to see other videaos. Thank you.

Michael is the best biblical teacher I’ve ever listened to. He preaches the scriptures rather than the pagan doctrines of men.

Thank you so much RL, absolutely amazing analysis. I appreciate the fact base and critical analysis you employ on all of your positions. This is invaluable in helping me follow and verify statements with scriptural reference. Keep up the great work and God bless.
  • If I were to adopt a child, that child takes on my family name. The adoption process doesn't terminate my family name and we just become "the family", no, my adopted son takes on my last name. In other words, when we are adopted into Israel or grafted in, we become, spiritual Israel (for lack of a better word). Of course we are not physical Israel, but our sustainance comes from the root of Israel, just as an adopted child's sustainance comes from his new family roots.

I didn't find God until my 20's, when I was in college. I did go to Cavalry Chapel for a number of years until I stopped. One day, my now wife had taken me to a Messianic Jewish Synagogue, and since then I've never looked back. It was like countless light bulbs had gone off and I could see how beautifully connected both testaments are. For my christian friends that think I've "gone under the law" or whatever fictional statement that they don't even actually understand, I liken it to a man who was at a restaurant and ordered a steak and potato. When his dish came out, the steak was small enough for 2 bites and his potato was the size of tater tot. He asked where the rest of the meal was, and the waiter laughed because he had never heard search a thing. The rest of the folks in the restaurant noticed and also laughed at him, and so he left. Spiritually speaking, you don't know you're starving until you don't. I will never, never go back - Sorry! I for one happen to love Olive Branch's teachings - seems like a very humble guy, not the confrontational sort and doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would entertain answering this video. I could be wrong. I'd rather he didn't anyway. I don't know you or your teachings, and the only 2 videos I ever saw was tearing their beliefs down. I don't care for that, so I'd never watch others . Nonetheless, you seem dedicated to knowing the God and the Word, and wish you well on your journey.

That was a very interesting bit about your family. I appreciate you sharing it

This teaching is completely sound, the only reason for confusion is that the complete teaching is taken out of context. Please follow Michael's complete series and other teachings, you will find him to be a treasure to the Body of Yeshua. I have never attended any assembly that is not in division over these issues. Thankfully Michael can bring unity to those that are willing to search the scriptures prayerfully without agenda.
  • Thank you for this excellent, thorough, contextual, literal- grammatical-historical discussion of these contentious issues. As a Jewish believer in our Messiah I really appreciate your defending the actual teaching of the Bible in this age of rampant deception. God bless you, Brother.
  • Ezekiel 22:25-29, I think all teachers need to read this, Messiah also identifies the wolves in Matthew 7:15 and John 10:10. If you are doing what Ezekiel tells you is the identification of a false teacher/wolf then maybe you are one. 🤷‍♀️ Ezekiel's words not mine. I love Michael Ohman's teachings he has helped me no end with deep understanding of the Bible unlocking the riddle's of old under the Holy Spirit's guidance. Not everyone has the Spirit but it leads you to all truth and never speaks against God's beautiful perfect Torah. A light to my feet on the narrow path that only few find. Shalom.🙏🕎
  • Thank you for clarity. Good point about Family vs Israel.
