5 Reasons we can't follow the Gospel and the Law at the same time

Published 2023-12-06
This is critical for the body of Christ to understand. There are so many people dealing with the bondage of thinking they are required to keep the Old Covenant laws like eating kosher, keeping the seventh day Shabbat, keeping the Torah feasts, and so on. The NT teaches that those traditions are permitted for followers of Jesus, but they are not required. So it’s important to understand the freedom we have in Christ, and why we cannot follow the Law of Moses and the Gospel of Jesus at the same time. We are forced to choose on so many issues. In this video we look at 5 of those issues.

When i was trying to follow Torah I couldn't focus on Christ. And I was constantly worried I wasn't really saved.
  • In my opinion, this is the best teaching you have done so far. It has systematically exposed the false teachings of this "movement" in a logical way. I know some will want to argue that with long drawn out essays that make no sense, then there are others who may have the veil finally lifted, so they can be set free from the spell they are under. May God help you! 🙏 A note to those who disagree with me and can't wait to comment with a thousand word response. Please listen to the video again as it would be a better use of your time. Maybe hearing what Mr. Solberg has to say over and over again will help you to understand.

Excellent teaching. Who could argue with that??? I am so grateful for the simplicity of Jesus. Thank you brother

great teaching. I was getting "sucked into the Hebraic Roots ideas by a Messianic Teacher. He used scriptures to support his opionions and they seem to make perfect sense. He presents very strong arguments for following the laws of Moses. I watched a video on Hebrews 9 by the Professor Solberg and clearly showed me that we don't need to follow the laws of Moses. This whole do we need to keep the law of Moses has been going on for 2000 plus years. I think this Hebraic Roots movement is a very strong delusion in the church today and is gaining speed and confusing many Christians. Thanks Professor Solberg for these teachings.
  • Thank you for your body of work here brother. A brother I've known for over a decade has recently slipped into the ensnarement of Torahism. I attempted to share a TON of Scripture with him but he has taken an "ulterior spirit" 2C11.4. His name is David if you and anyone else reading this will pray for him. God bless!
  • i love and admire the spirit of grace, truth, and humility as you speak about others even while disagreeing with them! truly this is the ".. fruit of the spirit" and the "...love, against which there is no law."
  • You do an excellent job of teaching. Your videos helped me to leave Adventism, which is just like Hebrew Roots.

My husband and I's best friends (a married couple) have fully embraced torah keeping. We were in the process of starting a new ministry together. It started with him just saying he wanted to eat biblically, observe the feasts and rest on Saturday. Him and his wife fought about it to the point of separation. My friend told me last week she 'has seen the light' and will start following the torah. She said she will hand over all the paperwork for our ministry. Its like a punch to the gut to have someone you are very close with (best of friends) tell you they can no longer be involved in ministry with you and don't know how to proceed as friends over this. They say we can't follow all of the torah and they're trying to 'figure out' which parts still apply to us today. When i ask questions and show them verse after verse they say they are still searching out the answers. Which tells me its something they've just decided is correct and will twist scripture to make it fit. The gospel is simple to understand. It doesn't take years of trying to figure it out. God doesn't want us confused! Thank you for the work you do. When i first heard about their beliefs, your videos really helped me to understand a lot. You really are doing the Lord's work. God bless you!

This is exactly why I LOVE the Professor! Iron sharpens iron!

Bro - you’ve been cranking out the content and it’s awesome! Thank you. This is so valuable coming out of the Torah Observant movement.

I just want to say I already knew what you were teaching today but the way you teach doesn't only put it in our head it brings it down to our hearts I thank God for that
  • It’s my belief that old covenant ended with finality in 70 AD. The old covenant was fading away, on the way out, from the time of Christ until 70 AD. Hebrews 8:13, fading away. What do you think?
  • @VictorResto.
I really like that you stick to scripture brother. You don’t reinforce your conclusions by giving opinions of other men saying that other scholars agree with this teaching. You allow the spirit to guide you in your teaching and the us the viewers has to go to the Bible and look for ourselves if we want to doubt what you say. May the Holy Spirit guide us unto all truth. This year has been deep study on this topic of law keeping.

Thanks Rob. Very good comparison that can only leave one with the fact that the Law cannot be followed and is not required to be followed. We can learn so much from the Torah, Psalms and the Prophets, but in the end Jesus told them in Luke 24:44 that they basically pointed to and confirmed Him as Messiah. So many wonderful pictures of Messiah in the Old Testament. But He in His loving kindness towards us has provided a new and better covenant. Shalom

The Apostles went to the Temple to preach and make converts, since that's where the unbelieving Israelites were gathered. They were beaten, thrown out and threatened with death (in Stephen's case he was killed). They weren't "worshiping" or following the Law.

Great work Solberg, I think this might be the best one yet! An interesting verse in Acts 21 that made me stop and reconsider Torah observance was this: ‭‭Acts‬ ‭21:25‬ ‭NKJV‬‬ [25] But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.” This follows what James said to Paul about the accusations he was teaching Jews to forsake Moses. It's a clear juxtaposition, between the Jews and gentiles and what they are to observe. "they should observe no such thing". James is clearly saying that the gentiles don't need to observe the Torah like they had previously addressed in Acts 15.

Misunderstanding in spiritual warfare is not always a failure on the one teaching. Often its a refusal to see, or a rebellion against the truth. Stiffening one's neck. Jesus never erred in His teachings, yet the pharisees continued in their stubbornness. Today, if you hear his voice, harden not your hearts like in the day of provocation.
  • @heather602
Good point about the Levites. Also worth noting that the priesthood itself has changed. Jesus is from the order of Melchizedek.

Following all the laws that apply from moses has been a blessing to me and my family
