How to Fish: Essential Stillwater Trout Flies | GoFishBC

Published 2018-06-25
How to Fish: Essential Stillwater Trout Flies covers all you need to know about stillwater fly variations in B.C. Trout can be picky eaters, so freshwater fishing expert Brian Chan explains how and why anglers should ‘match the hatch’.

Fish can discern size and colour, so it is important to choose tackle that matches the chosen food source at a given time of year. Each spring, chironomids are the first to hatch, followed by mayflies, damselflies, caddisflies and dragonflies. Water boatman and backswimmers follow in the fall. Brian illustrates how flies are designed to imitate the insects at their different life stages. Shrimp and leech patterns are also discussed.
