Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

I really liked this vid Dan. I always wonder if I'm spending enough time trying something, or wondering when to switch it up. I appreciate your insight and find it helpful to hear what others do. I agree... getting skunked is part of the process, and only makes us want to get back out there all the sooner! Thanks again!
  • Great video! I’ve recently got back into my fly fishing for about 6 months now and I got ‘skunked’ for the first time last weekend and yep - it’s upsetting. I’m gonna try out some of your advice - the leader weight being one that interested me the most. Thanks again for the great advice 👍

Lots of useful information! Thank you!
  • @RolloutRick
Thanks for all the tips man I just started fly fishing and all this info is very easy to understand!
  • I basically have one fly that i use, sometimes 2, at the moment i have no reason to change it because I outfish most people every time, even guys who are trolling. I just sit there, cast out a sinking line with a 4-5 ft leader and unweighted fly, finger roll, pause, when line gets vertical ish, recast, they usually hit it in the middle half of the retrieve, trolling it can also work if you give some action and stops.
  • Just stumbled upon your channel and subscribed.I just wanna say how great and informative your videos are! Keep them coming!
  • Awesome information, still waters can be mysterious, unlike moving water hard to find structure & fishy places,I carry another line,a clear intermediate for fishing over submerged weed beds or structure, tie 2 different colors of buggers & works sometimes, tight lines & bent rods 🤘
  • Stumbled on your channel & a ton of great information,my go to line for still water is my 5 weight Cortland Cammo Line paired with 6' of 4X or 5X Fluorocarbon tippet for streamers & a floating Line for nymphing or indicator midging,my favorite flies are a tadem bugger rig 1 light & 1 dark ,great video & great information
  • Great vid dude, i’m from South Africa and I’ve never heard of indicators for fly fishing, so definitely learnt something new!
  • @danreid6712
You definitely have a good mix of flies. My go to fly in cold water is a white marabou or spey streamer on a sink-tip line. Lake fish cruise all over the place. Downed trees, points, ledges & humps are good places to try. My name's Dan too...

Thanks for the info! As a newer fly guy who has very few Swift water options, I’ll put this info to use!
