  • So many things to consider when choosing names ...the name in full, abbreviated, as a nickname, etc. just to avoid giving a child/person a burden. I did like Josephine Loveless but no ...perhaps Lisa Michelle Loveless is more complete. I think, as with naming mine, it will just appear before you ...out of the blue. Good luck ☺
  • Your rules are my rules. So good to hear others feeling the same.

I agree about names, so much to think about especially going forward in life. Names that constantly need spelling out but also be aware of what a name will become as a nickname. It seems most names get shortened even if the parents don't want it. Turns out my 'David' is mostly 'Dave' and my daughter Joanna is now 'Jo' (but I'm happy about that because I like that).

Tui is a pretty name. And the people I know who are called Tui are really lovely people.
  • @rawiniah
I heard what you said but I have to put it out there.... Aroha Loveless... the play on the word 'love' is super sweet....and I can imagine the mystery of her name to her peers. does 'love' have boundaries? anyway, that's all I've got to say and I'm sorry NZ didn't work out for you guys, your boy had natural kiwi written all over him. All the best for the future xx
  • I was convinced when you were speaking of Molly that you were going to say Harry Potter, and then you said drugs. 🤣🤣 I was like, huh, that went in a different direction than I was expecting. We have an Eleniel, or Ellie for short. It’s elvish for Star Madian because my husband is a huge Tolkien fan. Our neighbor has an Elowyn. Also Ellie for short. I just thought it was pretty.
  • As a Laura, I have never had to spell my name except when in foreign countries. But if you chose to spell it Lora, I guarantee she would be saying "It's Laura with an O" all her life lol

Names are hard! When I was expecting my first son we really liked the name Toby. My grandmother phoned me to say I couldn’t name him after an ornament that is so ugly (google Toby Jug)! I said we could call him anything we liked and she said if it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t be here to name a child! Honestly I laughed so much - she wasn’t being that serious 😂 Anyways, we didn’t name him that because an ad came on TV and it featured a dog called Toby and it was a very popular ad!

I have the same “rule” for the ending of my name with a first name. Lol and I absolutely LOVE a family name of mine, Lawson for a boy. But with my last name it just it’s a good fit at all. “Lawson Crossen”😆
  • @mandypdx
I’m watching this for help naming my puppy ❤
  • When I had my 2 we were not told the sea so we had a boys name and a girls name picked out before our son was born, pregnancy 2 we still loved the girls name but could not decide on a bots. Fortunately she came along so we weren't still deciding after the birth after all. Choosing names is hard ..especially when you add in getting good initials, and shortening or nick name possibilities. I'm sure you will choose the perfect name for your baby

If you are a fan of Superman ... Lynn Loveless = LL (Lana Lang , Lois Lane, Lena Luthor etc.) Or any of the L names in your list. Also makes it easy to use LL instead of signing full name. Thinking of other simple names - Misty, Wendy, Amber
  • @lizduke6139
We named our children after we meet them too, their personalities reflects their name. A name I thought for you could be Oceanic or Oceania have her born in the pacific
  • @johntepu1869
Totally understand regarding cultural appropriation Rebecca and I have always been impressed with your consistency in pronunciation of Te Reo and your respect towards the Maori culture, both belong to the land, the people are merely guardians and vessels of knowledge. “Aotearoa” for a middle name would be very appropriate especially if your child is born (tangata whenua) in NZ, your child would every right. If you have any issues with anyone, please mention my name as a friend
  • So interesting that Harlow and Blaire are unappealing phonetically to you! I love the way they sound but hate Elizabeth 😂
  • @lonegamers7826
Commenting a year after the fact but I loved you brought up imagine walking into a job interview with that name. Some people are really doomed.
  • Maybe use a middle name. Tui, that's a bird name. Other Maori name, Aroha, means love. And if pronounced correctly, it sounds lovely

Hi Becca, what do you think of the name Jessie (or Jessica)?
