Declutter with Me! Cutting my Wardrobe in Half as Part of Joshua Becker’s Minimalist Challenge

Published 2023-05-19
I was so inspired by Joshua Becker’s recent video, I decided to try one of his experiments. It was a daunting task to get rid of half of my clothing items. I did not include underclothes, socks, or bathing suits, but everything else was scrutinized to make sure I kept my favorite things!

I'm late to the party, but I agree you should keep the sweater. I very rarely need something dressy, but I make sure I have one 'wedding worthy' outfit for winter and one for summer, because I never know when I might need it, and buying second-hand, you can't always guarantee finding what you want when you need it.
  • I decided to try to do this thinking I wouldn't get rid of many things. I now have several bags of clothes. I'm in an apt so I will put it out and by lunch it will be gone. Lots of people here who need stuff here. I've done this with kitchen purge and all was gone in an hr!!I do a big clean out every yr and when I move. This keeps my belongings to only what I wear. You did a great job.

Loved the cream sweater, would hold on to it. I personally have a small container that I keep sweaters that I need for special occasions. And I also have a sweater with that same cream color,it’s a classic.

"BANG TIDY" well done for that life changer clear out. I halved all my clothes this week then found this video & watched you do similar. I am sure we can enjoy being reunited with favorites & not grapple with safety pins & turn ups etc on the make do items we no longer have 🌻🏆 ⭐

I think you should keep the sweater too. I have a sweater set that I have been so thankful I held onto it for dressy occasions.

I’m doing this, too. Sometimes I think, “What was I thinking??” 😂

This is the best question I heard for decluttering purpose - “ will I reach for this item when I go on vacation?” ❤️
  • Perfect timing! switching out my cold weather for warm weather clothes and decluttering my closet , we have 4 seasons here, so I simplify by cool/cold weather and hot / warm .so twice a year I switch out and declutter.

I want to come shop in your closet 😊 well done! Very inspiring 👍🏼 I have recently cleaned out a bit..I’ve got more to do for sure.
  • Thank you for the video! All of my clothing fits into one dresser because we don’t have a closet in our bedroom. I even have all my seasonal/maternity clothes in the bottom drawer. I thrift for 90% of my clothes so if I need a fancy dress for a wedding or event I go thrifting. I try to be smart about it though and get versatile pieces that I get a lot of use out of. But on the other hand I'm in the point of my life where there is a lot of ebbs and flow on my size due to pregnancy/nursing. So I keep little inventory that I love. Also I would love for you to do more challenges! They are so fun.
  • What is your number? Can you cut it in half? I would love to know if you were taking on this experiment…
