Night Time Kitchen Cleaning Routine: What I've Learned After 50 Years of Homemaking

I probably should have made my kids do more around the house but my perfectionism got in the way. I did, however, expect them to rinse their own dishes and put them in the dishwasher. These days my husband and I clean the kitchen together. Our adult son who lives next door usually eats with us. He puts his dishes in the dishwasher and if there are clean dishes in it he puts them away first (my least favorite task). He also puts away condiments and such and if the trash needs to be taken out he'll do that. My husband starts hand washing the pots and pans or whatever doesn't go in the dishwasher while I put up leftovers and wipe down the stove and countertops. It really only takes a few minutes most nights. And lately he's been sending me out of the kitchen as soon as I've put away leftovers, especially if I've made a more labor-intensive meal while he does the dishes. As you say, many hands make light work.

I enjoy your videos. A long handle dust pan is very helpful for me, because I have back problems.

Great Tips! I need to work on closing down the kitchen before I go to bed! I like to put leftovers in individual serving size containers so each person just has to take out that one container, heat it up and eat it!
