I had around 8 subscribers at the time of this video, and if I'd known it would one day get a million views I never would have made this. Therefore, my arguments aren't the most thought out and the audio sounds like it was recorded in a bin. Keep that in mind while you watch it! Also since making this, I've come to appreciate the original comics way more, so it's completely unfair to say its characters are one-dimensional. I think I was referring to Stan's style of dialogue, but just because it's dated doesn't mean it's bad. Stan's original run remains one of the best in comic history, and his characters were very complex. I still agree with most of what I said in this video but I wouldn't do it at the expense of the old comics.

The fact that Bendis was able to make the clone saga good is a testament to his talent

11:54 one of the best characterizations of Jameson was in the first Spider-Man movie where the Green Goblin wanted him to give up Peter (the guy who sends the Spider-Man photos) and he denied knowing him, saying “he just sends it in by mail” Staring down a super-soldier that could rip him to pieces and he didn’t back down.

I wholeheartedly agree with everyone who recommends this run as an introduction into the Spider-Man comics. Sure, you get some weird details that are exclusive quirks of the ultimate universe, but it all works to create a cohesive narrative that works from start to (almost) finish. I read it years ago and it didn’t really do it for me at first, but after stumbling upon Prodigy’s motion comic series of it and getting to experience it at a better pace, I’ve gained a new appreciation for it.
  • I've never read this but that "last" scene where all of Peters friends celebrated his life made me cry, wish Jonah could of been there

I actually found out about Ultimate Spider-Man from the video game that came out and I was hooked. Mark Bagley's art and Bendis' writing put together is pure beauty. One thing I will always love about Ultimate Spider-Man is how human and emotional everything feels

i will forever be mad about the way Peter's relationship with Kitty Pryde ended... i really liked them together- they definitely deserved more and maybe someday we could see them get together again!

Ultimate Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man are the greatest teenage versions of the character ever made, really shows that Peter Parker can still be a responsible and total badass hero at the age of freaking 16 years old which is really inspiring and awesome.
  • I personally despise most of the ultimate universe because it mostly that i didnt want it to go or went too far in my opinion. But you have definitely convinced me that the way spider man's story was told is what we need. A more character based, personal story. Definitely changed my view on this slice of the universe. Well done man!
  • I feel out of the live action Spider-Man actors, the closest to this version of the character is Andrew Garfield. People want to think Peter Parker is upbeat and positive 90% of the time, but he's got a lot on his plate and always had a bit of angst in his character. Ultimate Spider-Man, to me, emphasis this to show how difficult being a teenage superhero really would be and I love that. Yeah, he's hit heated at times, but wouldn't you be at that age and had to deal with everything he does? Andrew Garfield, to me, feels like he took a lot of inspiration from this run to try be relatable to every kid and teen who's ever felt overwhelmed and like they can't handle it anymore. Despite feeling that way too, he always gets back and and continue on because it's his responsibility
  • You did it man. You convinced me to read the whole Ultimate Spider-Man Run. I picked up a collectors edition of Ultimatum from my local comic book store for like 2 bucks and really got invested in the story, but I never knew where to go from there, so I seriously appreciate this video breakdown man. I know exactly what I need to look for now.

"The Ultimate comics were supposed to take risks other comics wouldn't, like... What if Captain America hated French people?" That made me chuckle

regardless of what he does in the future, bendis will forever be a great writer in my eyes because of this series. Excellent video bro. Subbed
  • Ultimate Spider-Man is my favorite comic ever, but it also has a lot of problems and has one of the most disappointing endings I've ever seen in anything. I don't hate Miles Morales, but it's a real shame he's the only thing people remember about Ultimate Spider-Man.
  • Im so glad you talked about Jameson, or else I wouldn't know that version of him existed. If we're talking about relatabiliy, Im pretty sure a lot can relate to having a golden standard of what a hero or superhero should be. It makes Jameson no different from the fans that hate on "this" or "that" version of Spidey because their favorite versions aren't getting the attention and praise they deserve.

What I remember most about ultimate Spider-Man is his final battle with green goblin Osborn has nothing left he goes all in on one final attempt to kill Peter Peter calls on all of his friends does everything he can to protect his aunt and Gwen The art makes it feel like it’s this cataclysmic battle between these two demigods And the rush of emotion you get when in his final moments all Peter feels is relief that those he loves are safe
  • @ForeverEliite
Finally someone talks about how great this series is, ultimate and spectacular are my favorite iterations of Spider-Man being young.

The only thing I didn’t liked about the end of the Original Ultimate universe was miles migration to me I really liked how he tackled a established super mutant world but hey you can’t always you want :) also that Peter revival I kinda for got that happened

I love finding a channel with someone who is so open about their love with comic books. Great video on one of the best Spider-Man series ever

I love Bagley’s art; when he’s on. The thing with Bagley that drives me crazy is that you get these random issues where it seems like he just mailed it in. Don’t want to make assumptions, it could come down to synergy with inkers & colorists, I don’t know. But he seems to have large peaks & valleys.
