Hebrews (Part 6) - Heb. 4:1–13: A Sabbath Rest Remains

Publicado 2024-03-09
Jesus is our Sabbath: In this passage the author of Hebrews continues an important analogy he introduced in Hebrews 3—that of holding fast to our faith so we can enter into God’s rest. "A Sabbath rest remains for the people of God" (Heb. 4:9). This is part 6 in our verse-by-verse apologetic Bible Study of Herbrews.

Only 20 minutes in, and that 20 minutes was gold. He is a very gifted teacher.

Hallelujah. I look so forward to these teachings. I have been serving the LORD for many years and continue to learn especially from your teachings on Galatians and now Hebrews. God has truly given you wisdom and understanding in explaining His word. God is good and his mercy endures forever. Shalom.

Steve I love the teaching you are upholding the biblical truth of the Sabbath under the new covernant gospel grace.Jesus is our true sabbath/rest..in the spiritual perspective the Sabbath is not or nolonger referring to the physical day of rest, it's referring or directly points to Christ as our perfect resting place. In Hebrew 4 , the saints everlasting rest clarify in detail of the spiritual meaning of sabbath and it points out that God sets a new day which is called TODAY which means Jesus today, yesterday and forever so we christian say Jesus Christ supersedes the old physical sabbath ...He becomes the true spiritual sabbath, those who receive Jesus receive the true eternal rest.. Today is the day of salvation Today if you recieve Jesus you receive his rest/sabbath In Mathew Jesus said come to me and I will give you sabbath rest.HE IS THE PERFECT SABBATH.. Every day I live, I live for Jesus.. deeply rooted and grounded in Jesus Christ.

I grew up around believers who labeled the OT irrelevant. I’ve come to absolutely love the OT over the last few years. Jesus is all over it. I’m so excited for part 6 of this study. YouTube isn’t showing your videos in my feed anymore. I could have been here studying days ago!
  • Hebrews 12:11 (ESV): 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.

Brilliant exposition, what a fantastic breakdown of that passage. Well done. But in a practical sense, it always moves me to hear so wonderful a salvation we have in Christ.

This has been a wonderful study of Hebrews and look forward to each new video. This study has been a high point because it made things so clear. Also appreciate Solberg highlighting areas of scholarly disagreement.
  • Hebrews 9:28 (ESV): 28 so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.

Wow chiasmus! I love learning about new rhetorical devices Rob, thank you! I'm going to have to go back & look at some passages that have been puzzling me with the amount of repetition going on - for instance Romans 7 (in fact much of Romans is repetitive) - to see if they fit the chiasmus structure...

It feels to me that the Hebrew writer is in part a worship leader. In fact, it feels like the writer closes his eyes in a worshipful focus upon the very person of Jesus. Here as if to introduce the idea of looking upon God with spiritual focus (faith). Remember, it is the Hebrew writer that teaches us what faith is - that it is seeing what cannot be seen and being certain of what is coming. Later he will say “since we have confidence to enter the most holy place…” do you feel the writer closing his eyes as if to lead the reader into his experience of worshipping God. Try closing your eyes and listen to someone reading what follows… “let us then draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Seeing Jesus operate his spiritual priesthood with faith in the inner sanctuary of my mind leads me to an exercise that feels like worship. It feels like the writer does this in a spiral-like way building up to the pinnacle of the two mountains in chapter 12.

Thank you so much for this helpful teaching. I especially appreciated the lesson on chiastic structure. This was the best explanation I have heard, together with some excellent examples. Will you cover the whole book of Hebrews? I have memorized Chapter 12 and would like to hear you teach on it.
