Tory MP Mark Garnier says he “can’t understand” why Reeves’s first act as new chancellor is to “hammer pensioners of all people”, following her choice to scrap winter fuel payments for those not on benefits.

Hammer pensioners because in general they are not Labour voters. Give Civil Servants above inflation pay rises because they are.

In the meantime Ed Miliband says Labour will honour pledge of £11.6bn in overseas climate aid. That is half the apparent black hole the Rachel Reeves is moaning about. Where is the logic in that?

She is hammering pensioners. I know several with just over the basic pension and few savings and they will not get the fuel payment. As you know but won't admit starmer and reeves love WEF and Davos and dislike the uk and the taxpaying citizens. I research starmer and just didn't like what I saw

Simple way to save money stop paying £8 million a day for migrants staying in hotels, then pensioners could still get their cold weather payments and many more good ways in supporting those in need in this country. Labour's going to make matters alot worse.

When she looked over the figures she didn't notice the winter fuel payments were missing from the totals? But after just noticing it she is going to scrap them straight away and not even consider rolling back anything else she has planned!

Not only have pensioners lost years of pensions compared to their parents, but now they lose the winter payment and because the tax threshold hasn't increased for years fall into a tax bracket. I suppose she's got to find money for the million immigrants she'll be funding over the next 12 months and the million the following year and the following year.
