“There’s going to be a huge amount of ander if the groundwork hasn’t been done so the British public are prepared for the scale of the mess that Rachel Reeves says that needs to be sorted out.”

Chancellor Rachel Reeves has to “land the statement” or she will face a “huge amount of anger,” says Times Radio’s political commentator Theo Usherwood.

  • @IeuanBevan.
Anyone gonna talk about what will happen to farmers if they remove IHT relief?

10p rise in fuel duty floating around and anti car policies. Miliband still giving £11.6 billion to overseas green projects. Stopping fuel payments to pensioners . The OBR last report June says there was £9 billion fiscal headroom using the fiscal rules.

I do wonder had they even bothered to listen to or do they understand the reactions from the speech, clearly not because it has come has a total shock to those who have been shouting the Conservative line, “they had access to the books”. However, now the truth is out, either they were stupidly naive or complicit. Particularly, given even the OBR is reviewing now its March 2024 report, based upon this additional evidence and the IFS, is already saying, that there is credence regarding the unfunded items.

It is not the Labour's version of the 2010. This is 2024 and the state of public services is a lot worse than 2010. Today is a unique failure of the Tory in gov for 14 years

Most of us are not economics experts, I'm clueless. I think taxation rates should be flexible though depending the situation

Why not we had plenty under the Tories and the media were largely silent on the matter.

Thousands of old people will die this winter because of Reeves today. Hundreds of targets, but she hits the vulnerable elderly. Most pensioners that don't get pension credit are just over the limit but are still on extremely low incomes, me £14.4k. I won't be able now to put the central heating on . I've already economised on food. Nothing else to cut back on. I can suffer but my 83yr old wife is just hanging in there health wise. Shameful.

I give you tax rises in a min,Will you stop keep going on about government all the time,Got what you voted for so put up with the higher taxes,Do I need to see this ever day ???? seen enough of it every day for the last 14 years

"Huge amounts of anger"! Amongst Tories, the mega rich, corporations and millionaire shareholders, perhaps. But not amongst the vast majority of us. Enough of Tories engorging themselves at our expense as our living standards decline. Time for the Rich to pay their fair share.

22% junior doctors Pay increase 5.5% to her public sector pals. No wonder we have a black hole in the budget. I can only dream of these type of pay increases, however the private sector is never heard politically
