Sparta had one of the most respected and fiercest fighting forces of their era. Daily life in ancient Sparta supported the military machine to the point where all other aspects of life revolved around it. From the time a Spartan was born to their death, they served the state and its armed forces. Spartans had to be perfect, both in society and on the battlefield. Their civilization worked as a military unit, preparing both men and women to be their best for whatever challenges they faced.

"Would you be able to live the life of a Spartan?" Somehow I don't think you'd have any choice.
  • I’m sure Spartans would think us modernized people were utterly fat and useless! 🤣

So, strangely enough, Sparta was one of the few societies in the history of the Western world where you actually hit the jackpot if you were a girl and not a boy. You got a husband who looked like a superhero and you actually had several freedoms that no other women were allowed in centuries.

Something I've always wondered: how did Sparta become so brutally obsessed with creating the best warriors that distinguished them from other city states? Was there a defining event that made them like this?

“If they were caught for a crime they were severely punished, not for stealing. But for not being smart enough to get away with it.” Good way for psychopaths to thrive

    Baby: Sneezes once Spartan: YEET
  • It's interesting that only soldiers who died in battle and women who died in childbirth could legally get a funeral in Sparta, since they both died for their country. Definitely a good way to keep the citizens focused on the Spartan way of life.
