EXTREME MINIMALIST Living w/ ONLY 14 ITEMS

I am an extreme minimalist that is currently living with under 80 possessions. The only reason I know this is because I have been downsizing to fit all my possessions in my 28 litre backpack. I do not think minimalism is about the counting of items. However, I think there is a fun spectacle element to it. That I personally enjoy doing as a Video Maker. I also practice mindfulness & slow living.

In recent years I have come across several larger minimalist channels that have counted their items for fun. Such as Matt D’Avella & Samurai Matcha. Furthermore, I have also seen some smaller channels actually live with what I would call a ‘super’ extreme amount of belongings. Such as Craig and his 10 litre life channel. There are of course other extreme minimalists out there like, Robin Greenfield with 47 items. Youheum Son, whom at one point had about 82 possessions I believe.

The truth is I find it fascinating what some people can comfortably live with and without. I like to learn about the simplicity of not owning or having many things. But also the trials that can also accompany these low amounts of possessions. As obviously there is then also a lack of convenience. That sometimes arises with owning less. I like to do these trials to learn about my own comfort levels and how to balance my having of possessions with the energy taken to take care of belongings.

I am also intrigued with the idea of traveling very minimally, even if it isn’t a realistic endeavour for day to day life. The bum bag travel challenge for an extended period of time, not just 7 days, is my objective. Which is why I would like to trial it at home first. I will be doing this for 30 days. This video marks the half way point (almost). l will also share my final thoughts and discoveries on this super extreme minimalist way of life.

Take a shot every time the lady says bum bag 😂😂
  • @dianenoonan2068
I loved your hair in the last video where it was wavy and beachy looking!

I lived out of a bum bag for a while as an extreme minimalist It was working but it was a lot of weight so I just switched back to a duffel bag

I love watching your videos. It's really inspiring and brave to give things a go. Are you by the sea? I can hear the lovely sound of seagulls in the background.

Hello I like how your experimenting. Have you considered a buff? Youcan use it in your hair, but you can also use it as a neckwarmer in colder temperatures or as a headband ... It really is a nifty multifunction piece of my everday carry gear. I had some with a piece of fleece on them too. But I seperrated them into a lighter buff and fleece inner piece for winter times only
  • A couple of places where my mum went on holiday she even left clothes they’d used for holiday ( washed and dried) as it helped the people cleaning their room out. So when you are out and about travelling you could do that. Same with a book if u don’t take a kindle. Or some places might have a mini library if u are a reader x
  • I like your hair like this! (I mean the only opinion about your hair that matters is your own, so mine's not really worth much, but I figured I'd share it anyway. your hair's good either way)

It's nice to have your feedback in the middle of the challenge 😊 it's good also to know what you need and what you want to improve 😊 for your fringe if you try not to flat it but to leave it with volume with the rest of the air (I mean treat your fringe like you don't have one) it will grow and you'll not notice it anymore ☺️ Have a good day ♥️
  • I spent 5 weeks round Cambodia and couldn’t cope with constantly washing my hair in cold water or the idea of my fine hair being really greasy, and I had a fringe, so I twisted it all up into loads of mini twists and stuck about 20 hair grips in to hold it in place, I even slept with them in so I could just readjust it a bit in the morning if needed 😂 It worked really well!

Hey, do you use an eco friendly brand of hair elastics? I've seen some of cotton and rubber, but wonder how good they are. I tend to pick them up off the street to wash and reuse and also save wildlife from them.
  • Not a minimalist but I wear glasses they’re verivocals but also with transition lenses so I don’t need separate sunglasses. They’re more because I get migraines if I get sun in my eyes so they help me out more xx
  • Peace Pilgram has written a book that is both inspiring and eye opening. I highly recommend it.
  • I thought... what... its a month already? Then I realised lol. I am doing my garden/shed at the moment, so I was curious if you ever had a minimal garden or if you had one, if you would keep it minimal maintenance or go wild with growing plants and food or decorating it?
  • I have blue eyes and they hate the sun! My eyes burn the second I step outside in summer if I don't have sunnies on. Funny thing, as a kid I hated wearing them, now I can't get enough of them. You are such an inspiration! I want to try this challenge. I tend to go after items I use all the time and ignore the rest of my possessions. What's the point of having them if I don't use them?
  • @JaniceQueenB
Are there any mini hair straighteners on the market?
  • @ninarigne2108
Try letting your hair go! I have always try to manage my hair karma until I just let it go.

4:14 I'm actually broken because of this June weather - I'm currently in Ireland and I have 10 summer dresses for this summer capsule wardrobe and I'm suffering cold a lot - spending my days under the blanket, and I don't enjoy going out at all. Btw - you don't want to grow out your fringe and have all natural wavy hair?

I’m a minimalist for almost two decades now. However, I’ve seen quite a few of your videos in the last year and it seems that you are almost obsessive about the items you own and how few you can get down to. I’m a bit concerned about your mental health. This obsession isn’t healthy and it isn’t the point of minimalism. I’ve gone back and forth about whether to comment for months now. I just hope you are well. 💛
