  • Couldn’t see it in real time but the delayed reaction was classic hallmark of a liver punch.
  • @dv9051
The little shock wave that travels across the side of his body after the hit is really something
  • For all the people who said that the fight was “fixed”. Thanks Doc for hitting them with FACTS 💯

I boxed as an amateur for 12 years and this happened to me a few times in the Gym the inability to move or even think clearly for an nearly a full minute was impossible to overcome.
  • @romaruu
Thank you for explaining this for people who are quick to judge fighters that fail to continue after taking blows such as these. It's a truly disgusting punch to take, I wouldn't wish it upon anyone.
  • Take it from a guy who has had countless body shots, you can’t control those contractions. You can’t breath or stay upright. Although, he was up on his feet, you still feel hollow. The effects will humble you! Body shots are the easiest to land and hardest to defend. It really comes down to the puncher.

I was explaining this to one of my coworkers who was criticizing Garcia for quitting. I asked him if he ever took a liver shot before and of course he said no. The thing with that shot is it doesn't have to be a hard shot, it's all about the placement of that Punch.
  • people have no idea how devastating a liver shot is. this is a great explainer.
  • Beautiful breakdown. You took a subject that isn't easy to explain and did just that in 6 minutes. Kudos!
  • @MLHunt
Thanks Doc. You see those liver shots fairly often but I've never heard such a clear explanation of the train of effects that makes them so devastating. As usual after watching your videos I feel a little smarter.

as a boxer, and the only time i've been stopped was because of a body shot especially getting hit right after you throw a punch. It's amazing how your body has like a 2-3 second delayed reaction and then complete shutdown. The body is amazing and so is the sweet science 🥊🥊

For those of you who don't know, the most famous liver-shot knockout was done by Bernard Hopkins on (his now business partner) Oscar De La Hoya, for the undisputed Middleweight championship of the world. Classic.
  • Anybody who has fought know how truly painful a good liver shot is...
  • I've experienced a liver laceration and it was no joke. The doctor shut me down for the rest of my junior year in football because of it. Said if I took a similar hit to that liver it could cause internal bleeding and I could die from it. My QB pitched the ball so high and it left my midsection wide open. I thought I was gonna die lol fr

What an awesome profession. Its amazing how much information you're able to retain and how well you explain/teach it.
  • @cobracob
The fact tank is looking at it is a testament how much of a boxing genius he is
  • Excellent explanation for those who thought Garcia quit he physiologically couldn't get up.
  • I'm truly impressed he was even able to stand up or keep a straight face.
  • @Jeeksters
People who haven’t been hit by one of those hits won’t fully understand how crazy it is haha. When doc says you have no control he is totally right. Your body just shuts down on you. I did mma and I got kicked in the liver and holy crap, it sucked sooooo bad. Liver shot is the best shot in the sport
