In defense of Magus, nobody can properly interact with Dalton. That man is a walking disaster.

1:38 That transformation from Magus to Ayla is pretty cool, not gonna lie.
  • @flatmanv2
Absolutely thrilled that you pronounce all the characters' names the same way I do.

Man, the modders behind Chrono Trigger + must have had quite a few of these instances to deal with when they allowed players to do some things out of order. One of the things you can do, is instead of leaving the End of Time to go to the Middle Ages, you can go straight to 65M B.C. to do the Red Rock quest. It lets you recruit Ayla right then, instead of having to wait for your second trip back when you tackle Tyrano Lair. Which means you can fight Masamune with Ayla. So they probably had to deal with her flying away at the start. You can also sub Chrono out of the party before the end game, which probably opened up even more broken events to fix or rewrite. Loved the video btw. Its always nice to get a peek behind the curtain, and Chrono Trigger is one of my fav games of all time.

That's extremely interesting the developer organized character palettes so consistently, I never would have thought palette swapping between the characters would end up with such good results. Seems like hair color, skin and such share the same indices between palettes!

I swear, the more I learn about Chrono Trigger the more I love it.
  • @YARGGG_GG
always had a soft spot for palette swaps and such. :) fun times.
  • @NightcoreClips_
Awesome, I was actually waiting for this series to come back believe it or not❤
  • @SeanLifeFlame
Okay, but I genuinely want those palette swaps as available options in a mod or something similar now. Those're just too cool to never see again.
  • @lepterfirefall
Aahhh...chrono trigger. Those tunes TOTALLY take me back.

Once while deactivating an instant-battle-victory Game Genie code in ZSNES it caused a weird glitch where I was able to equip any weapon on Robo, and he'd do full attack animations. This leads me to think that before they decided on giving him "arm" weapons he may have been intended to be able to equip anything. I remember giving him one of Magus' scythe weapons and he did a proper animation for the critical hit attack. However, it may be possible that like with the sprites this is something where certain sprites are simply chained based on a predetermined sequence and that they exist natively for all characters. In any case, it was kind of wild when it happened.

now THIS is the kind of stuff i originally hoped for with this series alongside normal in-game sequence breaking, messing with the game's data in normally impossible ways to see what it does in certain scenarios.

The chancellor is gonna have a field day with the fact Chrono was also a warlord in charge of an invading superpower back in the year 600.

I always wanted a new Sequence Break, i never knew i NEEDED another until i saw this

funfact square commonly does their sequences like this. ff7 is a big example of many triggers always being active meaning huge chunks of the game are skippable if you can find ways to get to them. examples being sector 7 to sector 8. cosmo canyon skip. you can actually get vincent during nibelheim flashback (crashes game). which is a good thing they do this since if you were to actually skip chunks of gameplay some times you'd be locked out of going back to continue such as sector 7 to 8 of ff7. you can also see sequences breaks in ff10 such as skipping djose won't get you ixion but you can just go right on to shoopuff ride if you find a way to do it. not sure on other square examples at this moment though.

YES YES YES! I love Chrono Trigger so much, thank you for covering it, especially with Akira Toriyama's recent passing. It's good to come back to this classic masterpiece
