Prayer as Transformation of Life: CarmelCast Episode 70

Published 2024-05-31
A life of prayer is not only lived on your knees in the chapel; it encompasses your entire life. As we wrap up this season on prayer, we sit down with Fr. Daniel Chowning, O.C.D. to discuss what St. Teresa of Avila teaches about prayer as transformation of life.

How wonderful - Fr Daniel answered all my questions and struggles in trying to live prayer as a disposition. To hear again that I am loved as I am now and not as I want to be or think I should be is life-giving. Inspiring to know that if I keep to my daily silent prayer, the transformation is taking place. Loving those I am with and who are closest to me is the way to live out the fruits of this transforming prayer. I met Fr Daniel when he came to Scotland - he exudes the gentle love of Christ. The young friars who have presented this podcast on Carmelite prayer have done a wonderful job in the spirit of Teresa and John. Thank you so very much.

Thank you for these wonderful videos. May God continue to bless the ICS community.
  • This podcast was God sent to me, I almost give in to despair for I feel like I wasted time again and not doing my work to God. I prayed to the Holy Spirit and I found this... moved me to tears. GOD BLESS YOU, FR DANIEL AND YOUNG FRIAR. I pray that this video reaches many hearts and turn to God. ST TERESA OF AVILA, pls pray for us. 🙏

Hello, I just want to say that these videos are the best and they are so helpful to me and speak to my life. There's so much Catholic divisiveness on the internet, if only the Church would listen to your videos then she could be healed by love.
  • I suppose the friendship aspect of prayer is why I think so many of us are weary of the centring prayer stuff, it makes it some method to break into the contemplative realm rather than a relationship which grows and to which God eventually bestows the gift of Infused prayer.

Fr Daniel explained Prayer better than any I've heard. He elaborated in a way that made prayer easier to understand rather than making it more complicated. Thank you so much!!

This podcast is such a blessing. I enjoy reading too, but it's hard to find the time to do as much of that with a full time job. But while I'm getting ready, or on a drive, or eating lunch, I can listen to you guys insightfully discuss spiritual Carmelite material I would like to read but haven't been able to get to, and you add your own Carmelite experiences and reflections to it too. Truly a blessing. Thank you :)

Thank you so much for making these!! Praying for y'all 🙏🏼!
  • What I got from it was, living out prayer in our daily lives, walking the 8 steps of the Beatitudes and living out love in prayer form or prayer form done in love, it can be a prayerful life and bring prayer to life, to show it, live it, give it
  • thank you father Daniel, from a carmelite of France south Province. Good to see you !
