I recently picked up an Omega x Swatch Moonswatch Speedmaster. Today I tell you why I regret the purchase.

Instead of spending $250 on a MoonSwatch, Buy one of these watches instead

  • Crazy how every watch content creator hates it because it’s “overpriced at $260” but loves the speed master and will gladly cough up $5000 for one. Why can’t it just be fun? I love mine.

It's a fun Swatch. Not an Omega 😐

This is a collaboration between Omega AND Swatch. I think people really forgetting Swatch here and people who like swatches love this watch IMO. I know it's the same group, but this isn't a Speedmaster contracted out to Swatch, it's Swatch's usual boundry/tech/industry pushing style mixed with Omega. it's meant to be worn, abused, and be worn regularly. Anyone who has been a long time swatch fan/wearer is already familiar with that. I've owned swatches in every price range for almost three decades (since I was a kid) and it's a refreshing design collaboration with what I expect from Swatch. You should wear this watch as often as possible and basically beat the watch into the ground, then throw on some polywatch clear up the watch face and keep on going until the thing is dead. This is not meant to be babied and coveted and saved for your grandkids. Given Swatch's unfortunate increase in pricing, its price tag isn't that crazy either. They're not that much more expensive than system and irony and have the Omega style that pushes them over the edge that a regular Omega doesn't have.

"will be discontinued in a year or so" 7 months later still no chance to find the moon version and still everyone loves it
  • A month ago (June 2024) I bought the Pagani Design PD1701 V3 Black. It has lost about 1 minute in the month I have owned it and I wear it all the time. Lots of people have told me how smart it looks and I must have a lot of money to 'afford a watch like that'. I could never afford a genuine Omega Seamaster, so for me this is the next best thing, and I love it...........
  • You cannot compare this watch to the actual speed master those are two completely different watches. This falls into the category of a wonderful collectible of swatch, that is legitimately by brand and omega watch. I would never compare it to the speed master as far as quality goes, but I do think it’s just as equally valuable from the perspective of brand. not to mention swatch is Such a cool brand. I have the Swiss watch and absolutely love it. Can’t wait to get my Saturn omega swatch.

Fun video, I gave it a like! As someone who started their watch collection journey with Swatch in the 1980s, owning some rather rare pieces (including an unworn 1983 Men's prototype), my journey into collecting has took me to own a Planet Ocean, GMT Master II and various other wonderful timepieces. The closest Swatch store for me? 1,557 Miles or 2505 kilometers). I wanted a Mission to Mercury because I LIKED THE WATCH. They are made to enjoy. Collecting Swatch watches misses the point of ownership to an extent-You wouldn't wear a Speedmaster every day either if you were a factory worker. Enjoyment is the thing missing from ownership and collecting, and these had that balance for me. I will always be careful with most of my watches, but I don't care what it's worth later-I spent the money to enjoy RIGHT NOW. I refuse to regret my purchase, and will continue to enjoy all 67 watches I own...Cheers!
  • On a side note, I think this was kind of expected. The only reason behind this move for omega and Swatch is to capitalize in an Omega brand with Swatch (or less) quality. It wouldn't make sense to offer a good value for money option and use this marketing, the marketing itself is being used for attracting people to a sub-par watch that needs that name to hold itself. The only reason that I would find for the opposite would be if it was to maybe gain long time user loyalty from new watch buyers buying the moonswatch as their first watch.
  • Hi mate , to scratch this itch I bought last winter as a Christmas present for myself an Omega Seamaster Polaris quartz 32mm diameter gold dial designed by Gerald Genta , and I love that watch , I payed £150 more than the Moon Swatch was valued at the time . I did not understood what was the craze about this plastic toy , nor now either .

... Having just acquired The Mission To The Moon model I'm absolutely blown away with it! Was it / Is it still the hype god knows but OMG when I first opened the box and put it on my wrist it's been a very long time since I've ever felt about a watch in a very very long time! I own a Rolex Sub, BB58 and Tags etc but eventually getting my hands on this silly little plastic watch beats them all hands down just for the novelty reason and exclusivity too! Yes ok I have to baby the Bio ceramic watch I only ever wear it for going out / for best etc. I never have it near water and I don't sleep with it on either. I'm actually that impressed with it so much I've literally just bought the Mission To Mercury one too so I can swap them about and not wear them both out lol. I love the straps as well ok there not the best quality I must admit but the design and function says it all to me. Again for me it's about being different as I've only ever seen one person wear one in Meadowhall. No matter were you go or places you visit Rolex, Tudor and Co are here there and everywhere on people's wrists there gen to a penny this day and age. Now a MoonSwatch is in a complete league of its own just for it's exclusivity reasons? lol
  • Thanks man! I think I’m over the moon swatch. I was planning on trying to purchase one on an upcoming trip to Germany but I rather put my money towards something else. I owned an Omega dynamic years ago and sold it, should have kept that one
  • @kewrock
They're not hard to get in NYC anymore. The stores have random stock. You may not get the color you want, but you'll at least walk out with something. Crazy. We have 3 boutiques in walking distance here. Other major cities, and even modern Western countries, have none.
  • I wore it and got a ton of compliments, and after replacing the band, thoroughly enjoy it as a fun little watch.
  • Spending 200+ dollars on a swatch, and expecting the satisfaction of owning us in the master list, the craziest thing I’ve ever heard. It’s like me, saying I have this one bedroom condominium but I don’t get the satisfaction of having a 20 bedroom mansion.
  • I'm not into quartz watches, but if I were, I think that I would much prefer the Bulova Lunar Pilot. I predict that the future value of these will reflect that they are plastic and disposable.

This is a great video and thank you for uploading it, but on the other side of the coin, I actually enjoy the mission mars red/white. I also have a Breitling super avenger night mission, Breitling emergency 2 and I also have a Richard Millie watch, yes an authentic one. You have to take each piece for what they are. My moon swatch is just a fun piece that I enjoy doing casual things around the city. I owned a swatch when I was a kid in the 80s, it was my first “real watch”.
  • I queued up at the Trafford Centre the other day - there’s an official Swatch pop-up selling them - and I finally got one, Mission to Mars. I’m lucky enough to own a Speedmaster and, whilst it doesn’t compare, the MoonSwatch is a really fun homage. Does it feel like a £218 watch? There are better options in terms of raw value out there, for sure, but I’ll give Swatch credit when it comes to the dial design and quality of the printing. The case profiling and finishing is also really nicely done considering how complex the Speedy shape is.
