My eldest brother inherited my father's carpenter's chest and most of his hand tools. I have never been a jealous person, but I admit that I was envious of my pops gift to him. Every tool was over 50 years old. All of them old school hand tools, planes, hand saws, punches, chisels, etc. After I confessed my shameful attitude to him one day, and apologized for it, he did something incredibly generous. He waited until my next birthday and wrapped up half of the tools and gave them to me as a gift. I was truly touched by his kindness and generosity. He told me that he knew our dad would have wanted him to share with his little brother. Men don't cry often, but Both of us shed some tears that day. And some wonderful memories of our hard working, kind hearted dad.

cody, I just wanted to thank you for your videos, 2 years ago I lost both my parent to cancer , I was 22 at the time . Right around that period I started watching your videos. Somehow watching your videos give me a sense of peace, when I see you talk and do stuff its like I see my father, when I see your caring wife it remembers my of my dear mother. it comfort's me that there are still people left who where just like them, so again thanks for putting out so much video`s , thanks for the great content and thanks for being just you. Have a nice day! Ps. I like the plane idea :)

whatever you do on your next video, please make the title relevant. it's so hard to go back and find an old video to rewatch with these titles!

I am loving this series of videos. I grew up spending a ton of time in my dad's shop. He lived and worked on a horse farm as a kind of caretaker and it seemed like he was constantly fixing and building things. There's such a comforting, nostalgic quality to things like vices and drill presses for me now. I love the sounds of someone just working away in their shop.
  • i remember when Irwin was Petersen's Vise-Grip and still made in DeWitt, Nebraska. my grandpa worked on the production line for 24 years (died in 1992). my grandma (died in 2001) was Mr. Petersen's secretary for 23 1/2 years. that's one company I wish would come back to America. it meant a whole lot to my family.
  • "If I'm building an AR-15, or something, and I need a little vice, ya know, to do my work"
  • typically that sort of vice should also have the fixed jaw inset into the bench face the thickness of the fixed jaw plus the sacrificial jaw. Doing this will allow long boards to be clamped flush with the edge of the bench. Also, the wood used for the vice jaws is better to be a soft wood - pine for example. you want the jaws to dent not the work. alternatively, add some leather in the jaws. Anyway, my two cents - keep up the great work

I know you would like me to choose between the planes or router organizer; however, thinking outside the box for a moment, how about you, Mrs W, Jack and Fresh P sitting with a cup of joe or organic juice if you must, taking stock of the Cody Built WoodShop. Hint: you might consider a "Grand Opening" theme as well. Thank you for taking the time in making your videos. Cheers!

First off, I love the length and design of that work bench! I have the same Irwin vise that I need to install on a work bench and this solved that dilemma! Thank you for always putting out high quality instructional videos!

WOOD PLANE DISPLAY. Vice in a vice...genius! I weld primarily for my business and I have a good size vice that I don't always want on my primary table, what a great solution!
  • @ChurchClown7
It's plane to see that we all want to see Cody build a plane plane cabinet.

One of the clearest videos I've seen. I am a amateur woodworker Over the years; I've picked up a lot of hand tools..and a modest supply of power tools. Recently picked up a warrior cordless drill . So far holds a charge for quite a while. Again fantastic video.
