  • My guess for the Ariados entries contradicting is that it implies it makes multiple nests but never makes said any of those nests a permanent home, meaning it kinda leaves behind its threads everywhere

23:14 I think the actual combination that forms "Syrpent" is Syrup + Serpent, seeing one of its abilities is called Supersweet Syrup, i think that would make more sense then Serpent + Wyrm, although, it could be Serpent + Wyrm + Syrup.
  • @RenAsterion
For Tentacruel... I assume that each of those "eight" tentacles is, in fact, ten smaller tentacles all coiled together so they look like one, and when it goes to catch something, it uncoils them to catch things.
  • I love the hitmontop dex entry about its horn constantly growing, cuz it implies that the growing prevents the horn from being permanently ruined by hitmontop spinning on it. Like the teeth of a beaver Also “syrpent” is a pun on syrup, cuz its apple is made of syrup
  • I feel like syrpent could also be a combination of syrup and serpent. It works on so many levels!
  • @FahneXIV
Saw it mentioned elsewhere that Terapagos’ stellar form is a reference to the term “Turtles all the way down”, which is referencing the fact some ancient civilizations thought the world was on the back of a giant turtle- Which was supported on the back of another turtle, and that one was on the back of another turtle, and so on. It’s a neat idea, not sure if its true, but it makes some sense with its pokedex entry with that knowledge.

18:19 Fun fact on symbiosis: Shellder and Slowbro counts as parasitism. Mike was only focusing on mutual symbiosis. Symbiosis is when two organisms closely interact with each other, but that doesn't necessarily mean they both have to benefit.

Part of me wonders what is considered "paranormal" or "dubious" in the Pokemon world. Like, in a world where ghosts as well as people who can see them, psychics (both Pokemon and people), fairies and effectively magic, time travel, teleportation, aliens and interdimensional beings, interdimensional travel, bringing fossils back to life (which is effectively both cloning and bringing the dead back to life), the gods being real, and artificial intelligence are all as common as dirt and knowledge of them is pretty openly shared, like where is the line drawn?

One dex entry I loved was Smeargle's. It says that when it reaches adulthood, others of it's kind would leave paw prints on it's back. It is just so cute.
  • @SylviaReviar
I always thought that tentacruel having 80 tentacles would work if each visible tentacle was made out of ten tentacles each, and they’ve basically been so clumped together for dexterity’s sake that eventually they just fuse together.
  • @aykrivwassup
For Minior, I think the Violet entry is kinda explainable via its Moon entry: "If its core stays exposed, it will soon die off. It's possible that it may survive if it's put into a Poké Ball quickly enough." (Source: Bulbapedia)
  • @avakann4512
For Terrakion, it could be a future form of Plazma, considering they are known for modifying pokemon with Genesect
  • My guess for the "Ariados contradiction" is that Ariados only makes temporary nests so it uses that "special thread" to find it's way back because it makes soo many nests it can't memorise every location. Fun Fact: It's Scarlet entry is a reference to Ariadne's thread from the Greek myth of the Minotaur, she was the daughter of King Minos and gave Theseus a spool of thread so he could leave a trail to escape from the labyrinth after slaying the Minotaur, Ariados is also partially named after Ariadne. Also I'm pretty sure Syrpent is a combination of syrup and serpent not serpent and wyrm.

For the Hitmontop one, I think they wear down the horn on their heads by doing their regular spinning motion. This serves as a method of battling as well as to wear down the horns so they would not overgrow, much like how cats scratch things with their claws to sharpen/wear them down or with most rodents with their big incisors.
  • @draigg0
23:14 "syrpent" also sounds like syrup + serpent, which makes sense because hydrapple and dipplin are themed around syrupy candy apples etc
  • @MysticRyokan
the bird connection with Shiftry is because he's based off a tengu which are humanoid bird yokai that live in mountains their especially characterized by their long noses sometimes in the form of a bird's beak and holding fans
  • @hibikuokudan
The shiftry entry is even more fun because Shiftry is based on a Tengu, a type of youkai who commonly look like bird people!
  • @CilanSteele
A fun detail with Minior is that if it breaks out of its shell in battle, and then you run away, the Minior does literally just disappear
