Harry Potter carved out a market for popular young adult books being adapted into movies, and studios started scrambling for their piece of that pie. For Fox, that came in the form of Percy Jackson-- a book series following the demi-god son of Poseidon dealing with Ancient Greek stuff all over the place.

Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief raises lots of questions. Like why do Greek Gods hang out in the United States? Why does everyone think that Percy stole the lightning bolt? Why does Zeus pick such a specific time for war? Why keep Percy in Camp Half-Blood if Hades can just pop up in the campfire at any time? Why doesn’t Percy show any emotion when seeing his mom die or when chopping off Medusa’s head? What was Luke’s plan exactly? Why did he send them on a quest to collect things that would make his own plan fail?

To answer all these questions and more, step inside the Pitch Meeting that led to Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief! It’ll be super easy, barely an inconvenience.

Man, They keep making these pitch meetings about movies that don't exist.
  • @2kn111
“So you have a movie for me?” “Yeah, it’s based on a book called The Lightning Thief” “Oh, so you read the book?” “Well I meant to but then instead I took a nap for nine weeks so instead I just read a three paragraph summary on the internet while I was in the Uber on the way here.” “Oh, so you wrote the entire script in a what— 10 minute Uber ride?” “Pretty much.”

"This isn't Harry Potter, sir" "For financial reasons I'd like it to be" Died laughing.
  • @GDSStudios
Alternatively: "Does that have any psychological effect on this child?" "Actually he's not a child. We aged him up to a teenager to appeal more to our audience of children." "That is how that works."
  • @dougwafer1564
“Man this place is like high school without the musical” “so just high school” I lost it 😂
  • @RossAllaire
The American flag and fireworks overlay is legit one of the funniest things this show has ever done. Bravo!
  • @ViewtifulDarnell
Persephone shouldn’t have even been in the Underworld. She’s only there during the winter months but this movie takes place in summer. Still mad about that to this day.
  • @magicreborn3720

  • @binton2443
“And he’s like, woah! What’s her name?” “His mom just died”
  • @EngHag
I love how he sounds mildly disappointed about the fact they are fighting a minotaur and not a throwing-cow.
  • @kobathedread
Ryan's disappointment at the kids not fighting a cow is priceless.
  • @kingsleycy3450
"Do you think maybe we should adapt the books faithfully because fans like the stories?" "I am sure they just like the names."
  • @vladpootin5513
"He wakes up at this training school for special people." "Oh - Hogwarts." "No, not Hogwarts - Camp Half-blood." "Oh - is the Half-Blood Prince there?" LOLOLOL!!!! GOLD!
  • @2013branth
"For financial reasons, I'd like it to be." I'm stealing this line.
  • @RustinChole
“So then a minatour throws a cow and them, and they have to fight it!” “The cow!?” “The minatour.” (Disappointed) “oh.”
  • "so then they head to the entrance of the Underworld which is located in Hollywood!" "that's where I live!" "same here, sir" "wow wow wow -- wait do you think there's a meaning behind that?" the shade lmao
  • @Dino-god69
I love how the villain is set up to be Ares in the book but last page turns it into Luke lol. In this they literally were just like yeah Hades seems bad lets go with him 😂
