You play as Barney.... one of his 1 million clones at least.

Video without voice:    • Half-Life... but as Barney (No Voice)

Azure Sheep is a really old mod (or at least I think it is), because it's page on moddb says it was released in 2001. In this mod you play as Barney, who goes on a massive trip to save one of his friends named Kate. And the half-life AI, didn't help me at all. It just made things worse. :/

Blue Shift: What Barney actually did during the Black Mesa Incident Azure Sheep: The embellished story that Barney tells everyone about what he did during the Black Mesa Incident

The lore of Azure Sheep is a bit confusing, But in General It's actually nice mod.

Who wants some facts? - The Barney you play as is literally called 'Just Barney', since canonically he forgot the rest of his name in all the chaos. This is canon. - You're right - you look different to all the other Barneys because of your character's shirt. It's a darker blue compared to everyone else's... for some reason. - Switching weapons is slower because you don't have an HEV suit and its 'weapon selection system' to speed up the process. Except it doesn't get faster when you get an HEV suit, so... - The new noise for the health stations is a low-effort attempt to remove the HEV suit charging part of the sound effect. As you noted, it sounds awful. - Being able to reload your pistol with full ammo is a holdover from early versions of Half-Life and isn't exclusive to this mod - older mods with custom code have the same 'feature'. - The weird corridors (which really are all over the place and are the main reason I hate this mod) is a result of the mapper, known as Dav. It's just how he makes maps. - You didn't get a crowbar - instead, you can find a pool cue. It was near the beginning of the mod... but as you demonstrated, it's also super easy to miss! - The little purple creatures are called Chumtoads, and were an enemy modelled but not really used from the original game. Mods tend to use them a fair bit for variety. - New guns! No idea what the pistol is, but the new machine gun is CLEARLY the Pulse Rifle from Aliens. - Adrian and Gordon share the same voices. Surprised you didn't pick up on that - the accent's pretty distinctive. - Incidentally, there's a fan-made HD pack for Azure Sheep that DOES give Adrian all his weapons. It's hilarious seeing them all strapped to his back while he just uses a pistol. - The red Panther creature is another one basically cut from the original game. You're meant to shoot him in his eye. - ...again, the fish creature is one not really used from the original game. - The ending has way too many helicopters. Four in total over two maps! It's a real nightmare on Hard. - This came out before Blue Shift, by a couple of months IIRC. - There IS a sort-of sequel/spin-off mod called Point of View - it has you controlling a Vortigaunt and if you thought this mod got silly... hoo boy. Finally, this mod was (partially) remade for Black Mesa. Only the first part is finished, but it's REALLY good. The same team decided to put it on pause to remake Blue Shift, which they're working on to this day - the third chapter (just after the elevator crash) is due to come out in a few weeks.

Azure Sheep is such a neat time capsule. A great mod with its use of cut alpha enemies, levels and story ideas. The level design really is lacking with lots of empty corridors. The G-Man role in this mod makes sense if you go back to pre-HL2 days where it was a very popular fan-theory that the G-man was the administrator of Black Mesa.

Oh boy, Azure Sheep, never finished it, it's a perfect mod for those who've wondered what the facility would be as a maze.

12:15 Adrian: (Breaks the door) Adrian: YES (two aliens appear and bring him to somewhere)

This mod breaks canon on so many levels

4:52 I swear this has to be a reference to that one skyscraper entrance in the first matrix movie. Like the pillars and metal detectors just give off that vibe.
  • @Carbonated404
I love how this mod was released only a couple months after blue shift.
  • @BoSPaladin-102
The Black Mesa version of this mod is actually kinda better, especially since they make it have more canon-friendly moments by having the player character(Justin Barnes) gets shot by a black ops(which happens in original Half-Life) when he meets Gordon and replacing the special forces(the grunts with the pulse rifles) with the black ops from Half-Life Opposing Force which makes more sense all things considered. It also greatly improves the map designs completely, so yeah it's pretty obvious which version I prefer.
  • 13:09 that's the cut enemy, panthereye it was in your absolute zero and they hunger videos. 5:45 you were supposed to get a different melee weapon that you missed.
  • @CKVanilla
“Half life… but as Barney” so half life blue shift
  • @zacariasz9079
Well, I mean the Barney'a was a nice addition, otherwise - sections of this mod get rather confusing, and man... The campaign long escort quest in GoldSRC - now I know what my hell will look like.

    "the better blue shift"
  • @LasherTimora
I considered Azure Sheep to be the best Half Life mod until I played Echoes. Really love this mod.
  • @Chiller07
7:49 I love how the scientist in the test tube in the back just got left like no cares about him
  • @Peluceus
Honestly if you were to tell me this was the alpha campaign for Blue Shift produced by Valve I would totally believe it. Like the gameplay and models were complete but the voice actors didn't get their hands on the game yet
