Sanibel Island rescues: Coast guard lifts people, pets off the island by chopper

As someone who grew up on the coast, the Coast Guard doesn't get the recognition they deserve. They do many heroic tasks with little to no recognition. Thank you to the men and women of the Coast Guard for all you do.

Teary eyed here. Thank you to the Coast Guards for rescuing people & PETS. You guys do not get that much coverage you all are hero's.

My dad was Coast Guard. Behind every one of these Coasties is a family at home dealing with the hurricane aftermath by themselves. Great job Coasties!

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths we go to help rich people that put themselves In harms way by not evacuating. Great job Coasties

The Coast Guard is incredible in this situation and in many other situations. My only question is, "why didn't the people who live here leave and go inland"? I'm glad everyone was safe but at the same time I'm thinking, "for Pete Sake's, when a hurricane is coming, leave! I'm from the midwest and when tornado sirens go off I head for the basement. I don't sit to see if I can, "wait out," the tornado, because with common sense I know that I can't and don't want to take chances. The Coast Guard is amazing. They do so much and deserve more recognition. This is one situation in which they calmly went above and beyond.

That coast guard is so chill. Keeps everyone calm, really great job guys!

As myself once rescued by the Navy initiated by the USCG, my salute cannot be held long enough in admiration for the dedication of so many coasties. 👏

This is absolutely terrifying ... crying like a baby. I’m so sorry so many people have gone through this tragedy. God be with them all and thank you Coast Guard for all the remarkable rescues you’ve done and continue to do for the state of Florida and its people. Just devastating.

🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸Great job guys! The Coast Gaurd doesn’t get enough attention or credit for all they do. The rescues they do daily all the time is amazing. And what a wonderful grandson to come and help his grandmother like that. ❤ EDIT: Also, her grandson was very helpful in getting the Coast Guard to notice them. He apparently went on the roof, and used something to reflect the sun to get the Coast Gaurd’s attention as they were flying around looking for people. That’s how the Coast Guard spotted them so quickly. Great job all around Grandson! 👏🏼🇺🇸❤️
