Shazam 's arch enemy gets his own spin off --- before he even got to interact with the hero.
While The Rock is certainly one of the biggest stars in all of Hollywood ---- it was his input and power plays that destroyed what could've been a great stand alone DC feature.

Today we take a look at this villain turned anti-hero's first (and probably last) major outting.
Did The Rock save the DCEU or did he finish it off himself?

You can tell the "failure" of Black Adam has had an effect on Dwayne Johnson, with him wanting to remake Moana and even returning to Fast & Furious.

when dr fate was about to sacrifice himself and says that he sees nothing in the future for him i was literally in the theater like "this has no right to be in this movie. its too good."

If your entire franchise lives and dies on the shoulders of one character or movie, you did not build your foundations correctly.

He wanted this to be his Terminator role. But Black Adam wasn’t nearly hard core enough. Rock tried turning the character into a sympathetic anti hero. Can’t have both. Black Adam being someone who kills his enemies does not have the impact Rock wants it to have since 95% of Marvel’s and 90% of the DCEU heroes all kill

Dr. Fate and Hawkman were probably the highlights in terms of the characters. In fact, this movie should have been a Dr. Fate and Hawkman movie where they face off against Black Adam. Then maybe after that they could have their standalone Black Adam movie.

What I hate most about this movie was the rated potential of Peirce Brosden as Dr. Fate. He looks the part so damn well and nailed the character, and they did nothing with it and we likely never will again. Fate is such a dark tragic character and to be remembered in this film is such a major disservice to his character.

The DCEU died the minute Batman V Superman released and split audiences. From that point WB always second guessed everything going forward thereby killing the universe before it even truly began

Dwayne Johnson is so much of a narcissist that i guarantee you that leading up to the release of this movie, he thought to himself, "Yeah, this gonna make at least a billion."

The Rock’s biggest problem is himself. He’s a huge star, but he surrounds himself with no-name talent. He doesn’t work with huge directors, and his costars are either past their prime or unknowns, for the most part. He doesn’t want anyone around who can challenge him, push him, demand more from him. To quote Bane, victory has defeated him. For a guy who is so busy, he’s incredibly lazy from a creative standpoint. He was counting on this to be his retirement plan. He’s in his 50s now, and with all the sequels and shit this was supposed to generate, it would’ve kept him busy into his 60s. His time as an action star is fading. He’s closer to the end of his career than the beginning, and now that this plan to take over DC has failed, he’s running back to Moana, donating money to the actor strike to rehab his image and look good again, and pretending everything is fine. People aren’t paying for mediocrity anymore. That Red Notice movie was supposed to be a theatrical release with Universal, but they read the script, realized it was shit, and dumped the movie. He had to scamper off to Netflix to get it made, where we don’t have real numbers about how it did. If that was released in theaters, with that budget, it would’ve tanked. He’s bland, basic, and overrated. In 20 years, no one will be watching his shitty movies. They’ll be watching Terminator, Rambo, and Die Hard.

You have to admit. It is truly amazing how they got Black Adam to play Dwayne Johnson too a tee. Bravo Black Adam!!!

You might as well finish this quasi Shazam trilogy by talking about Fury of the Gods. That movie was certinally affected by the Rock's control over the BA character and then there's Zachary Levi's rivalry with Johnson.

This movie killed the DCEU? I thought it was practically already dead. Especially when WB was already planning on rebooting DC anyway
  • I don't care about Black Adam but, the world needs a Dr. Fate Movie with Pierce Brosnan
  • @davidguy209
Let's not forget that Doctor Fate isn't the man - he's the living helmet!
  • @JacksonLane02
Well by Black Adam the DCEU was basically a burning casket while it truely died but the Whedon version of Justice League

The Rock truly illustrates how fortunate Arnold was to work with directors that were not only visionaries but also did not take any bullshit from prima donnas. Just look at how the iconic 'I'll be back' from Terminator would have never come up if it was up to Arnold but Cameron told him to stick to his lane.
  • @mfninja5190
Na Vee. The Rock was essentially playing the same role he always does. He did the least he could possibly do and we shouldn’t congratulate him for it.

The fact we aren't getting that animated Shazam movie as a WrestleMania style event film is sad. Zachary Levi + Henry Cavill vs Dwayne Johnson should have been a no brainer to make. I blame Johnson's ego on this. He makes it in his contracts to never lose fights. So he would not allow people to make him the punching bag of two heroes. Black Adam is Shazam's arch enemy not Superman. People only put these two together because Adam can take Supes in a fight. I actually did like Black Adam for what it tried to do. Seeing the Justice Society was great but I wish the evil government ruling over Khandaq was the villains. Maybe give the leader a suit made of Eternium since it hurt Adam at the beginning. I was expecting that to be used against him, not a demon lord. The Shazam franchise was a huge waste of potential.

wouldn't affect the overall movie but I think it would've been cool if both Superman and Shazam were in the end credit scene. Shazam often needs help fighting Black Adam so it's true to the character. I'm sure a live action fight between the 3 would be messy to choreograph but it would've been worth it... or a cgi mess
