John 17 De-Calvinized

Published 2020-06-12
Dr. Leighton Flowers, Director of Evangelism and Apologetics for Texas Baptists, gives a brief overview of John 17 in order to explain how some Calvinists misread it to support the idea that Jesus is only praying for those unconditionally chosen for effectual salvation rather than all people in the world.

Technically he's not de-calvinizing anything since the scriptures aren't calvinistic to begin with. He's simply interpreting scripture in context and correcting the mistakes of calvinism.
  • I was so close to becoming a Calvinist and your videos along with reading materials that deal with the thinking of the 2nd temple period (the Jews and Christians of the 1st century) and how they understood the messages preached by the Christ and His Disciples, delivered me from Calvinism.
  • debunking one predestination stronghold at a time. This channel is quite awesome.

I like McCarthur and a very good pastor and smart but fails here cause he lets his ideology and system think for him because he’s been taught this all his life.
  • Thank you for these short videos they are invaluable for quick reference. God bless from across the pond, England.

It’s amazing we Christians often spend more time debating and arguing with each other than we do witnessing to the world.
  • I agree with you almost 100% of the time, as I do in this video. I also appreciate that you are offering some videos that are concise, shorter than 2 hours, 1 hour, half an hour, and even 15 minutes. this helps those who need to hear you're good biblical interpretation, and apologetics against Calvinism, but don't have those other lengths of time to do so.
  • Professor Flowers, thank you so much for your unending passion to give clarity to difficult passages of the Bible; passages which ,at first glance, seems to be calvinistic. Praying for you sir!
  • I'm sure James White will appreciate that music on this video too... 😆

This was great Dr Flowers. Thank you for the work you put into it
  • Thanks Leighton for all your exegesis for non-calvinists to help when talking to those who accept a convoluted erroneous soteriology.
  • Thank you, thank you, thank you Dr. Flowers for your great, clear & helpful work to represent the powerful and comprehensive truths of scripture as it pertains to these topics that many have twisted and diluted over the years. Your ministry and your teaching is truly an answer to prayer and something that I truly think the Lord for! You and Pastor Mike Winger have been such a blessing and encouragement. Praying for you guys as well as thinking the Lord for you often! John 8:31–32
