Today's practice is a restorative flow that I designed specifically for people living with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). This sequence is done completely lying down, so it avoids inversions and other upright postures that may aggravate POTS symptoms. If you don't have POTS, this sequence is still for you! This practice is for all levels, and will leave you feeling relaxed and centered.

ABOUT ME + SLEEPY SANTOSHA
Hi! My name is Rachel. I am the creator of Sleepy Santosha. I am a certified yoga instructor who specializes in yoga for chronic illness. Although I hold two teaching certifications, the classes I teach are largely inspired by my own firsthand experiences with chronic illness and my personal yoga practice.
Because I know what it is like to live with chronic illness, I am able to create yoga classes that intuitively support the needs of someone who is experiencing chronic pain, fatigue, brain fog, etc. and many of my classes can be practiced in bed. If the practice in this video didn't suit your needs, be sure to check out the other yoga classes on my channel. I try to provide a variety of intensity levels.

  • wow! so grateful you have made this video. thank you so much for supporting the POTS community. just wonderful
  • I'm a POTS patient who recently received her diagnosis and was prescribed cardio rehab. Because I don't have access to fancy gym equipment, I had to seek alternate options. I was told that yoga was a great way to start, so I decided to look up poses that was POTS-friendly, so to speak, and I found this video. Thank you so much for sharing this. It gave me the encouragement I needed to start my journey to wellness. ❤️
  • I haven’t been able to do yoga in so long with out feeling like I had to be in a just a right pose or feel like I was going to pass out. I finished and just laid on my mat with tears running down my face. Thank you so much! ❤️
  • I just started practicing yoga again, and was feeling frustrated by my inability to flow from one pose to the next without wanting to pass out. I'm super excited to try this tomorrow.
  • I'm so happy to find this. I was diagnosed as an older person and really appreciate the guidance this provides.
  • After heart surgery and struggling with pots this has helped so much, thank you.
  • I am so grateful to have found this video and channel. I am completely new to yoga. As a person living with POTS, I found this sequence supportive and relaxing. Thank you so much!
  • This is SO relaxing... Thank you! I thought I'd never find a safe exercise to do again!
  • @lizinawe
wow. was diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency for four years. when it resolved and i stopped taking the hydrocortisone, i was diagnosed with pots adrenogenic.. a connection for sure. either way, my body has been slowing down horribly and nothing i do seems to help.. will do your routine at least.
  • Just started getting into yoga because of my physical therapist for my pots. This looks much better to try than the poses she was having me do. I’m actually going to show her this video at my next appointment. Thank you
  • @sjodoin
This is a wonderful and super helpful practice - thank you so much

I ve just read on your blog '...2. AVOID DEEP BACK BENDS Deep back bends like wheel pose or king pigeon stimulate the nervous system, which can aggravate POTS symptoms. Some of my students with POTS have told me that even small backbends like cobra pose or cat/cow stretches can aggravate their symptoms, too. Listen to your body. If any poses make you dizzy, start to blur your vision or trigger headaches, reach out to your yoga teacher for alternative poses or omit these poses from your practice completely...' The pose from 9th minute is not too risky? Thanks
  • I used to be a really active person, but I became bedbound a little over a year ago with POTS and chronic fatigue.. I've been treating my POTS every way but exercise, as I've been nervous about something exacerbating my chronic fatigue (I think I have ME/CFS but haven't yet been formally diagnosed). I'm really thankful to have found these videos from someone who really gets it!! I did this routine for the first time today, and I was surprised by how difficult it was for me to transition & how weak my arms felt in spiynx pose, but I'm looking forward to continuing it, trying some of the other videos, and feeling my body get more reconditioned :) I will follow up with another comment after I've tried it a few times.. thank you!!
  • This is fantastic, thank you so much. It feels so good to start exercising again somehow!
  • thank you so much for this video dear ❤️ it really made a big difference when I was feeling really... not great. much appreciated ~ and wow that leg stretch does so much!!
  • This amazing before i was diagnosed with pots i loved doing yoga. I had no idea you could do restorative yoga with pots!
