2020/08/30 Death Valley. Kevin, Sean, Chris, Darren, Ryan. Trip report: Leave San Diego at 10:30am. Baker for gas/food about 2:30pm. Arrive in first stop in DV at 4pm Ashford Mill Ruins. 111 degrees. Proceed to Badwater, Devil's Golf Course, and Artists Palette. Arrive at the Mesquite Flat Sand Dunes, equip and start heading into the dune system at 7pm. Probably 100 but feels like mid 80's in the dark. Slight breeze in short gusts through the night. Hike 1 mile to the highest dune and set up behind it to get out of the wind. Moon is 3 days from full so very bright and low star visibility. Sleep time after dune/sand play/night frisbee at 11pm. Wake up about 6am pre-sunrise. 80 degrees but feels like low 70's. After some dune recreation, when the sun starts rising, head back to the car. Head into Mosaic Canyon for a half hour/quarter mile hike at 8:45am. Proceed to Salt Creek for a short walk, Harmony Borax Works, and Mustard Canyon. Stop in Furnace Creek Ranch to use the bathroom and check out the general store. Head to Zabriske Point, and Dante's View as the last stops in DV. In-and-Out in Barstow on the way home. Back in San Diego at 7pm.
