Tripwire Alarm

Published 2017-05-20
I'm setting up a paracord tripwire connected to a small personal sound alarm device, just to test the concept. I know that you're not supposed to actually see the wire, but as I said, I'm only testing it.

- This is not a review -

The alarm I'm using is a Soundgrenade from Robocopp: www.robocopp.com/

I'm just a swedish woman trying to learn the art of bushcraft and survival... As a biology / geography teacher I go from theory to practice - and it isn't always as easy as you might think ;)

  • Emelie, you may want to use heavy fishing line. It's clear and will not break. Using paracord can be seen, even at night. Clear fishing line may work better. Ray....Oklahoma
  • Thanks! Personally in the paracord vs fishing line debate, I think the biggest argument for fishing line is that it gives you a longer possible perimeter for weight/volume of cordage carried, and we all like keeping our pack weight down!

Now that you've tested the concept successfully, I would suggest getting a spool of military surplus 'booby-trap' wire, which is thinner, less visible, and won't flex (which might make the target wary). It usually comes on small wooden spools in both dark green and a yellow color to help blend in with surroundings.

Get yourself some Poacher Alarms Emelie. They take a 12bore blank cartridge .They will scare the living crap out of any predator , animal or human . A car alarm in the forest means only one thing , that other humans are present , and possibly vulnerable enough to feel scared. The sound of round, even a blank being fired also means humans in the area, but the feeling they may have just fired a warning shot, or even just be able to, is a much greater deterrent than the high pitched warble. :)

In my oh so humble opinion you are the most charming survivalist on YouTube, every video is refreshing so thank you for doing what you do; even though you clearly enjoy doing it we enjoy watching it.

You make me happy just watching your videos and learning with you

Great video Emelie. Nice to see you getting more experienced with each video. It is very impresive the stuff you decide to try and learn. Maybe you could do a knot video if that interests you at all. To help you with tighting the draw string you should try to use a taut line hitch knot or something there of. Then you can get it as tight as you need without worrying about it slipping back. I know it is time consuming to put out videos, but some of us do truely find your videos interesting. So keep up the good work and hope to see more of you soon.

I'd also like to add, if I had been so fortunate as to have a high school teacher like you I'd have gotten straight "A's"! I'm making up for it now though with my constant research. What a blessing to live in the digital age. I'm up by 4am every day to start school ;-)

As soon as you said 'what could possibly go wrong ?' I immediately got worried. Cheers Lass you are doing a grand job there.
  • @catyear75
Looking good Emelie ! Nice tripwire alarm , loud enough to wake the dead! Or at least someone sleeping soundly ! Be well !

What an interesting, useful and fun device to test. Thank you. Hope you have a busy summer planned for us.
  • Good demonstration! I'm sure your space will never be invaded, but the device will psychologically make your slumber more comforting. Cheers!

Good job, Emelie. If you're worried about scaring off an intruder, that will definitely do it. It's always nice to see a new video from you. I hope you're doing well.
  • @BeeeHonest
Thank you, Em. Going to order a couple of them for my next camping trip! It seems to be good for hotels or some Airbnb door knobs in case people trying to get into your room while you are asleep!
  • I applaud your diverse attempts at self education, application and knowledge sharing. Your theme song, accent and personality are cute. You seem smart, nice and your pretty😊❤️

Hi, thank you for your video on perimeter arms. I started using several kinds of perimeter alarms more years ago than I choose to remember . I found the most inexpensive are party papers, you know those cheP little rubber, plastic champagne bottles that when you pull the string you hear a bang and confetti blasts out of the bottom. Well , I allways take the little round cardboard bottom out and take all the confetti out as to not trash the woods. After just carefully place the little round cardboard piece back in and carefully spray paint them to match the ground as best you can and haza!!

ha ha ha ha i check and see if there's a video every day , i don't trust the bell lol , making you happy is my life's dream : )) Love your video's makes me smile and laugh every time i watch one , Thank you Emelie : ))
  • @TressaZimmerman
I actually like the version of the alarm you demonstrated. Its nice and compact and easy to set up. Thanks
  • I would suggest a video on learning knots. There are many knots that can help you in the bush and when canping. Much better than just knowing an overhand knot. Keep up the great videos.
