My Eastman E20-P and E40-00 - 2 & 3 years on.

Published 2022-12-16
I've had these two Eastman flat tops for a while now:
E20-P (November 2019, and E40-00 October 2020.
I've made videos about them when I first got them and as you will see they have both acquired a rather healthy "suntan", bone bridgepin upgrades, and a very pretty Holter pick guard .

Both were absolutely and nicely set up "out of the box" and have nothing but improve since they've been with me.

I bought the E20-P online from "Ivor Mairants" in London (their "closing down sale) and the E40-00 from TFOA in the Netherlands, (shortly before the UK's Brexit rules made importing and exporting so much more difficult.

Sounds great. You look in good health which is wonderful.
  • Great to see you man! Because of you I went on a search for one of these last year. I found a local seller as soon as I started my search for what was, ostensibly, my wife's new guitar. Here to report that her husband, with his collection of Martin and Furch guitars and pile of Telecasters is quite taken with her AND her E20 OO ! Thanks for showing us these two beauties...I got a feeling she's gonna be needing another one soon
  • Very nice, informative video with your 2 Beautiful Eastmans. BRAVO ! I own several Martins, Gibsons, Taylor, Guilds and dobros...They each have their place in the sonic plaette of tone colors, and are each set up for my small hands. LOL....been playing fingerstyle since 1964. I am about to aquire my 1st Eastman, an E 20 00. After looking at 000 & OM 18's , 28's by accident I cam eacross the E 20 00....I was Blown Away by its projection, note to note clarity, impeccable fit and finish, and its pricing. Was not planning to buy a 12 fret 00 but after playing it, I couldn't believe it.... the neck's feel, the wider fretboard, tone quality , clarity and projection was Perfect for what I am workingon....this is a songwriting and recording machine. Best regards, Mike form Northport, New York and Rockport, Massachusetts.

I bought an E6 OM earlier this year which I’m very pleased with. So much so, I e-mailed Eastman and they replied within a few days thanking me for the purchase and my kind e-mail, which was a pleasant surprise. My E6 OM is very resonant and it projects really well for its size. Several friends of mine have Eastmans, an E3 OMe and a E40 OO, which they’re both very happy with. Glad you’re happy with yours too, Andy.

That E40 sure is a sweet gentle sound, my favorite for today.
  • It is always a joy to see you. Happy holidays if you are into the season. I appreciate you and your knowledge.

Managed to pick up a second hand E40 OO earlier this year (at not inconsiderable expense! ) , you are right a thing of beauty, plays like a dream ,and worth every penny. Seem to have developed a love affair with Eastmans , (E20OM TC, E6SS TC , AC522ce) must stop! Always enjoy your vids .

Andy, They both sound great, especially the 00. Either of them would be a lifetime guitar. Maybe I should start playing guitar. George in Montana
  • I bought an Eastman e10 OO seeing your videos and I’m very happy with its wider neck and 12 frets. The sound is beautiful, woody and not boxy

I've been thinking about getting a small body guitar and the E20-P is on my list. I didn't know much about Eastman so came to YouTube to do some research and found your channel. I watched this as well as previous videos and was really pleased to see that it held up over the years very well. It sounds fantastic! Thanks for the detailed reviews. I'm going to have to take one of these for a spin.

I really like the E40-00 12 fret, and am looking at getting one. Eastman's 40 series are equivalent (trim-wise) to Martin's 42 series!

I also played an Eastman E40 OM with a torrefied Adirondack top and Rosewood back and sides with a Tone Tight (Bourgeois) neck. It is a bolt on neck. Sounds great. The Acoustic Shoppe seems to demonstrate Eastman guitars before others get them. Thanks Andy

I just got my E40 00 which I ordered 6 months ago after hearing about it from the Chapmans. I have a close relationship to an Eastman dealer in the US otherwise I don't think I would have been able to get one. I love it, I'm getting used to the shape and neck width and string spacing. Much different from my Yamaha FG450SA dreadnought.
  • Well, I was searching for a 12 fret Parlor, and was down to a Alvarez Mpa66shb. After watching this video, I'm now going to by the Eastman E20-P. Thank you for helping me spend my money, 😂 BTW, I love your videos!
  • This year I brought the eastman e3 OMe which is in their lower priced range and like yourself replaced the pins with bone and a small amount of attention to the nut I found I had a guitar which sings beautifully the only thing I might change in the future would be the tuners which could be better. I part-chopped a Furch that after 3 months of trying I still could not get on with for this model and like yourself I'm very happy.
  • "It's not boxy..." Exactly what I wanted to know about the E20P

I've had a 2023 EP20 sunburst for about a month. Love the sound and feel. Very solid, wide neck, and so much resonation and life in it. Bit of fretting out at high register, so hoping the neck doesn't have issues like former Eastman (2015). Like how your tops have darkened a bit. Like your pickguards, wonder how hard it was to swap out. Wondering also about benefits of bone pins--not sure what's on mine.

Guitars are so wonderfully personal things. Maybe some can't imagine. It's just a box of wood after all. The little moment were you couldn't stop just looking at the one to switch to the other seemed quite legitimately intimate to me. I have a 000-17 open headstock Martin that has an elongated body and like your guitars and responds to just the lightest of touches. Unfortunately someone bumped me from behind while I was carrying my "precious" and in the process of breaking a fall the face was jammed into the heatstock corner of another guitar and suffered a deep gouge. The other person involved is totally clueless as to the emotional impact I felt. It was an accident which is why accidents are called accidents. It hasn't hurt the playing or sound but it's a loss none the same. New Martins similar to the Eastmans' are about $1000 more. I'm surprised that how large the P's are. They seem about the same as a 000. I think there is a P10-0 maybe I'm wrong. If so have you ever seen one and how big is it?

I am intrigued by the E40…good neck size for me.
