Lyrics:

Who’s at the door now?

Sun goes down, windows wide
One step closer to the other side
I can feel what others do
Can’t stop this if I wanted to

Hey kid, what’s the plan for tomorrow?
Where will I wake up?

Hurry now boy, time won’t wait
The here and the now will separate
There are some things you cannot choose
Soul and spirit moving through

Hey kid, what’s the plan for tomorrow?
Where will I wake up?

Who’s at the door now?
(Wake up)

Two cold stones on a riverbed
Ripped and torn, cannot mend
Old white candles on a dusty porch
One flame down, another born

Hey kid, what’s the plan for tomorrow?
Where will I wake up?

Who’s at the door now?

You showed me how to breathe, but never showed me how to say goodbye
You showed me how to be, but never showed me how to say goodbye
Every page turns, it’s a lesson learned in time
You showed me how to breathe, but never showed me how to say goodbye

Try and make good with the air that’s left
Counting every minute
Living breath by breath

You showed me how to need, but never showed me how to say goodbye
You showed me how to grieve, but never showed me how to say goodbye
Every page turns, it’s a lesson learned in time
You showed me how to need, but never showed me how to say goodbye

Try and make good with the air that’s left
Counting every minute
Living breath by breath

Goodbye.

This is an amazing, amazing tribute to Dave’s mom and I am so glad he did this. For those of you that don’t know because it wasn’t talked about a lot. His mother died weeks before the first Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at Wembley stadium. So not only was he battling tears for Taylor that day he was battling the new grief at losing his mother, who we all know was his best friend and his teacher….❤❤❤❤

This album is going to help so many people heal and cope with their own losses, thank you Dave and Foo Fighters for this gift to our lives.

Its weird how grief, pain and loss creates some of the best music.
  • @borismarkarian5178
This made me feel like I was in my teens again. Took back to the 90s, watching MTV at 2am
  • @no_problem8023
Definitely their most ambitious release in decades. This is sick.
  • @rbcavalari
Can't stop listening this one... one of the most complex, beautiful and deep songs of their career.
  • @jeffreydanbury9712
This will probably be lost in the comments but this is one of those songs that you can actually feel. I lost my Dad about a year ago. The pain, anguish, questions, confusion are all felt in this song. The first time I heard this song gave me so much relief from all the emotions of the past year. Songs like this don’t come around very often. This is a masterpiece of epic proportions! As is the whole album! Thank you Dave! You are a one of a kind treasure!

I like Dave's softer voice. It's like the older music. Love it.
  • @ShopliftersUnite
8:37 that riff building up in distortion drowning out Dave screaming "Goodbye", then an abrupt cut-off. Epic!
  • @philly_sports1558
The progression from "Wake Up" to "Goodbye" in the song is a perfect representation of the acceptance stage of grief. I also love how the song almost seems to repeat itself halfway, representing how a new day has arrived in the grieving process but the pain is still there. Thank you guys for making this.

To anybody who has experienced the loss of a loved one, of a parent.... this will hit in the feels.

Nothing but the best from the “Storyteller” himself. This is just awesome on so many levels. Heartfelt thanks for your never ending ability to say and feel what needs to be said but is so hard to say. Virginia and Taylor would be so proud. I’m sure they’re looking down with grace and peace. ❤️🥁🎼🎸
  • "You showed me how to breath, never showed me how to say goodbye. You showed me how to be, never showed me how to say goodbye." I'm getting goosebumps everytime I listen this part.
  • @yaasooft
This is an incredible song. That closing riff with the "goodbye" refrain is an absolute monster. A poignant masterpiece. Having listened to this about 10 times today.. I'm beginning to feel like this is the best song Dave has ever made. It might even be the best song anyone has ever made

I lost my son on April 13th . He had just turned 25. I am broken. Nevermore was his song. I wish i could trade places with him. Jonathan Graham Fairchild. He was an organ doner and has saved at least two lives i am aware of. He is a hero now. Thank you Dave . I am so sorry for your loss. I feel your pain.
  • @philvd4000
By far the most original song they have released in years. Also what a hommage, and that final riff with the "Goodbye" just... wow
  • @kipstar3813
A definite masterpiece..I for one, am glad to be alive to hear this.
  • @doh4828
This might be some of Dave’s best work. The emotion is so tangible. I’ve been hearing this tune in my mind all day long. Beautiful stuff.
  • @serespaeter
